There are various used DID that show up in the drop down selection when adding a new Inbound Rule. Why is this? Shouldn't the dropdown only show unused DIDs? See attached screenshot. Can anyone provide me best practice when trying to reclaim a DID once an user is no longer with company?

SIP Trunks > one of the trunks > DIDs tab, delete DID you no-longer have.

I don't want to delete a DID, as we still have them. What I want to do is understand how come DIDs that are used, show up in the selection dropdown for Inbound rules? Shouldn't only available DIDs be populated there? Also, what is best practice to disassociate a DID to an extension so that the same DID can be reused by another employee.

they only drop down if you have not used them in another inbound rule.

you can have the same did in more than one trunk, you will see the same did show on the drop down.

i added a did to 3 trunks, you can see the same did on the menu pull down, hard to tell what trunk they are attached to but as you use them there will be less of the same did.

How can you have the same DID from 2 different Hosts? I confirmed that I have the exact DID provided by 2 different hosts.

many possible answers but fail over is what i use it for.

I thought DID were unique in which only 1 provider only has access to a certain range of them. Like Public IPs.

Te reclaim a DID you can delete the Inbound rule that was pointing to that extension. This will make the DID available again. If you delete the extension then the Inbound rule will revert destination of the DID to End Call.
