Using AWS as a failover for current install

I was reading the Hosting 3CX in Amazon AWS information, this seems to be for a new 3cx install, can this be used to create a failover server for current system? if so how would the setup differ?

Not at all.
You would do exactly the same as you would for any other system that you want failover for:

1. On the Active/Primary server, set the scheduled backups to be made on a common location accessible also by the Passive/Secondary server (e.g. FTP, SFTP, Google Bucket, etc...)
2. Set the Active/Primary server to "Active"
3. Install the Passive/Secondary server using the same license key and subsequently the same FQDN (not need to restore backup)
4. On the Passive/Secondary server, enable scheduled restore and set it to the same backup location you set the Active/Primary server to.
5. On Passive/Secondary server, enable set it to Passive, fill in the IP of the Active/Primary server, and all the other options you want (services will restart at this point).

At the first scheduled restore interval, the Passive/Secondary server should pull the backup from the Active and be synced to the latest state that is included in the backup.
