v16 Tapi - Does the Windows client need to be running for the TAPI plugin to work?

I have a client who uses TAPI with their current phone system to make calls from their Windows based CRM.
If they move to 3CX, if they load the TAPI plugin, does the Windows client need to be running and if so does it matter what mode it runs as?

Yes, TAPI works with the 3CXPhone for Windows client. You can use it in CTI or softphone mode, but it must be running.

Also, please note that we provide a limited implementation of TAPI, which will only let you:

• Make outbound calls.
• Receive inbound calls notifications.
• Drop an established call.

You can't execute any other function. For example, you can't answer a ringing call, or you can't transfer a call.

Thank you. Once the call is initiated from the application via TAPI it would call out via the associated extensions desk phone and then the call can be managed via the phone or say web client correct?

Yes, when 3CXPhone for Windows is in CTI mode, it starts the call, which will be actually established on the phone being controlled (your desk phone for example). Then you can continue operating with your desk phone, or the Web Client.
