V16 u 5 - Let me get this straight.....

We are currently in a state of "hanging by a thread" keeping people working. You pushed out an update (16 u 5) that breaks iPhone notifications for those not on the latest OS.

I am beyond pissed. Been using 3cx for 10 years but the 'attitude' of late has been to push out the latest bells and friggin whistles constantly and break things to force upgrades.
You did this with the Android app a few months ago.
So not I've got to go get a copy of server 2016, spend some extra time in my 16 hour day (probably between 1 am and 3 am) to UNBREAK the system so my iPhone users can simply get a call.

IF an update is going to break something because of the host configuration, you SHOULD NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE.

Is there any way to undo update 5 ?

No, I am blaming them for extremely bad timing in pushing an update that knowingly breaks current installs. Right now we are looking for stability. Apparently that is NOT 3cx's priority.

Wanna bet Apple delays their http/2 requirement? They aren't blind.

Yes, we shouldn't be on 2012, but when 90% of your workforce is mobile, now is not the time to be doing this kind of stuff.

Sorry, our business is NOT 3cx. And if you are a phone system vendor your customers are NOT going to be happy about a business disruption if they need to upgrade their OS.
This is revenue for vendors - yeah - but sucks for businesses.

This is like the 4th time 3cx has put me against a wall.

Maybe we'll just move to ringcentral and forget it. I'm tired of this stuff.

They didn't PUSH an update. I have plenty of systems still on Update 4. If you had automatic updates turned on, that was your fault. And 3CX had this in progress well before COVID. Here is their notice from back in January:

There are a number of other important changes in Update 5 that needed to get out, and they aren't going to back out the PUSH updates.

This really isn't a big deal. Update 4 is supported still. You don't have to upgrade. Apple hasn't turned off the old mechanism (yet) but 3CX is ready for when they do. Debian is free and since I believe they stopped supporting Foundation/Essentials/SBS your Server 2012 should support HyperV which means you could install Debian in a VM and have a supported configuration with minimal expense. And a planned upgrade is certainly less disruptive than switching to Ring Central. But maybe that is a better fit for you anyways.

I'm running Standard 2012 on vsphere. I don't need a new to me OS (debian) in the mix at this point.
I know it has it's place but that's not in our current environment.

Yeah. It's all my fault. I should be spending every day planning for 3cx changes. Nothing else to do.

So what is the point of enabling auto updates? To blame me for an update that breaks things?
This isn't what I call a planned upgrade, it's become a mission critical fix.

If it's on Vshpere just roll it back then? Or do you not have backups/snapshots? It's not like Auto-Updates is something 3CX invented. It has it's function and it has it's drawbacks. If you leave it on, you need to be prepared for issues like this with the ability to roll back if need be (something you should have with VSphere). If you are the cautious type and don't like surprises, you leave it off. It'd be one thing if you had auto-updates off and 3CX updated anyways but that doesn't look to be the case here. If for some reason you don't have a backup/snapshot I've posted the Windows Update 4 installer in a couple threads for folks you can use.

1. If he had snapshots enabled properly, he would not be barking here and would have just rolled back already, and not gotten so upset, which in my opinion, means he isn't running his vSphere system in a best practices scenario.

2. There is no excuse to be running a 3CX Server on Windows Server 2012, or Windows 7 at this point, if you are following proper life-cycle and best practices, heck even security practices, those operating systems would have already been blown away and upgraded.

3. If you think Debian has no place in your 3CX Infrastructure: (Spoiler Alert: your wrong, here is why)
A: You are grossly wasting system resources in vsphere. 3-4 Debian 3CX servers can run perfectly on the RAM and CPU of 1 Windows 3CX Server.
B: You like paying an extra couple hundred bucks for a windows license every time you build a 3CX Server, unless of course your buying used/pulled licenses from the fly by night vendors online. XD
C: You are likely afraid that if you install "that linux thing" that something will come up and you wont be able to effectively troubleshoot it, and will somehow be in a worse boat then you are now. All of that is crap, the 3CX ISO does the entire install and configuration essentially for you. 3 of my staff have ZERO linux experience, they dont even know how to navigate the directories(linux path topology), yet they all have built numerous debian 3cx servers without incident. Sit down, and try it, before you get bent out of shape and claim it must be too hard or complicated because it is "linux ewww"

4. Its one thing if you were never warned, but i recall numerous notices from 3CX warning that the older OS's needed to be retired and upgraded months ago. Not to mention those Operating Systems for security reasons alone should have been long tossed out anyway.

Step up and start getting into a best practices scenario and then you will be far better off, I manage literally hundreds of 3cx servers, do you see me whining and complaining when updates come out, nope.... Its because our network, servers, operating systems, etc, are all built out by myself to a planned out best practice oriented structure, that is how we host literally hundreds of 3cx servers in our datacenter, and a 4 man team(myself + 3) not only maintain them, but usually have fairly un-eventful days doing such.... 99% of our work, is customer change requests, or new build-outs. We have not had to submit a 3CX Support Ticket in months, and the last one ended up being a trunk provider issue.

Hi all,

To clarify a couple of things:

A) The "older" iOS app will work with update 5 (until Apple moves to HTTP/2)

B) The "new" iOS app will only work with update 5 and if you use Windows, it needs to be Server 2016 or 10 Pro otherwise you will lose connectivity

We did publicize this in January to give people on Windows 2012 hosts to prepare.
