V16 Update 5 Supercharges Remote Working with New iOS App Supporting Video

This upgrade has broken our iOS mobile app. When I launch it, it connects to the 3CX tunnel and displays all presence information, allows forwarding rule changes, and shows recent calls. However, the screen ways Waiting for network and will not allow calls to be made or received, even though the push notification service causes my phone to ring. I have tried a clean install of the app on my wife's phone as well as deleting and reprovisioning on mine.

It sounds like there will be a lot of Apple problems if companies cannot create a bridging App that can understand when it is talking to the old version and work that way, or that it is talking to the new version and can work that way. I doubt this will be purely a 3CX challenge, but it would be a lot better if such a bridging App was possible.

The current released version of the iOS client is the bridging version which in its released version works on U5 and earlier v16 versions. This has been made in order to allow customers to upgrade to U5 without the users needing to do any interaction on their endpoint (iPhone). Mid-May the testflight version will supersede the current public version.

The test flight version is for users entirely optional to install (only if they or you) wish to see already the new upcoming version.

For iOS TestFlight beta:
On the Management Console, please check for your extension/Options tab if "Block remote tunnel connections" is checked - if yes, uncheck it, press OK then see if client works and let us know (and let us know also the client version)
For iOS AppStore:
also check for "Disallow use of extension outside the lan" option above and be sure is also unchecked.
Thanks.

I’ve unchecked the disallow use of extension outside of LAN (checked in previous version) with no luck. Disallow tunnel was already unchecked. Client is 16.0.2.107. I actually had downloaded test flight without success too. Happy to jump on a call if we want to take a look.

On TestFlight what's the client behavior? You have Status, Presence, shows "Ready for calls" but you cannot make calls, or something different?

@jmiles-catc you can also try creating a brand new extension, leave it as is, and provision it on your phone to see how it behaves compared to your old extension

On test flight, it just says “Connecting...” in the top right corner. I actually did try it was another (2 actually) extension without success. All 3 worked pre-upgrade.

another 2 existing ones? or did you create a fresh extension like I suggested?

I'm suggesting you to open a new issue in the dedicated IOS client section
https://www.3cx.com/community/forums/ios.35/
so we don't flood the PBX section here, is more iOS related than PBX related
Thanks.

@ThomasF

Check that there are no pending updates in your management console, and then exit and reopen your app. It should automatically be updated too (you will see a message upon launch)

I updated it last night, and it worked great for a part of the morning...

I've restarted the 3CX server instance and now it is ok again. Weird, I've lost 1h ;)

We are still on Windows 2012 R2. Plan is to upgrade eventually, but time does not permit this at the moment. Microsoft support until 2023.
Does this mean we definitely have to hold off upgrading from 3CX 16.0.4.504

you can move to Debian, it's free and in the U5 they have solved the bug with exchange contact sync, so Debian it's the best choice

Sounds like the best route, I guess we will have to find the time to switch to Debian

in about 30 minutes you can deploy 3cx.
- deploy the iso in another vm with an provisional ip
- You take the backup in windows.
- turn off the windows machine.
- change the ip on debian.
- launch in the web interface the restore
- end

On the iOS app, I found the issue and figured I would close it out in this thread. Sophos zapped the 3cxTunnel EXE in this update. You might want to add an exclusion to your Anti-Virus for the 3CX folder to prevent the pain that I went through.

Some feedback on the new mobile app. First - it looks like a great new UI and upgrade. The one thing that I was is that the user registered no longer is displayed on the front screen. Since I use multiple accounts, that was always helpful to know which one was selected. It is in the menu, but creates an extra click.

I have a sales queue setup to accept clicktotalk and clicktomeet. Only chat is working in clicktotalk when going direct to the callus#sales. I can create a webmeeting call from the chat window, but there is no way to start a phone call from either side nor a webmeeting from the client side. I do have both phone and video enabled in the queue.

I also have this on Live chat & talk on my wordpress going to my sales queue and it work fine with chat, phone, and video
