I just finished troubleshooting the upgrade from v18 to v20. Basically in the upgrade it goes from Debian 10 to Debian 12. It uninstalled nginx, and a lot of other things in the process and left the system unclean. What I ended up doing:
upgrading from a 1 vcpu to 4 w/ 8 GB of ram in the google cloud console

sudo apt dist-upgrade # which suggested auto removing a lot of things so did
sudo apt autoremove

What I think would have worked right away was a sudo apt install 3cxpbx

It ends up that the upgrade completely horked the existing system so after stabilizing it, just had to reinstall the 3cxpbx and it did the upgrade from 18 to 20 but it wasn't automatic.

I did a lot of other things, looked through a lot of logs, but the above step I believe would have fixed it after cleaning up the packages

I also had to do a change password on my admin account w/ the v20 upgrade and switch from a username to the email associated with the account.

Our environment:
google cloud 3cx v16 instances that has been upgraded several times and modified.

Your millage may vary. My background is a Debian sysadmin type since version 1.3 with an RHCE in there and lots of time playing with linux / open source software.

Attached below is my bumbling around looking at random stuff until I figured out it wasn't installed.
