I have the following in place:

SIP Trunks
033XXX which then points to extension 801 during and out of office hours.

Ring Groups
801 has extensions 200,201 and 202 with a ring all strategy.
DNO is set to forward to an outside number if the call is not answered within five seconds.

When an inbound call is placed, the extensions ring as expected but after five seconds, I get the message "no answer, call will be ended".

I have then created an outbound rule which says +,0-9 from extension 801, route via 033XXX.

What have I not done here, please?

Edit:

I have made an adjustment that when there is no answer from 801, the calls are then forwarded to another (newly made up dummy extension) which then has the option to forward to external. This works.

It seems there is an issue with a virtual extension dialling out.

Just to update this somewhat and I have now come across another issue.

When the call switches from 801 to the dummy extension, this dummy extension then forwards the call to an external number. The external number rings but then it cuts off but the mobile which I am ringing from carries on ringing.

So it would seem that the forwarded call is being sent to your provider as the destination rings, once. Does the Activity log show something happening, a message from your provider, when it stops ringing at the destination? Does the log show the call actually drop? Have you tried sending to another external destination, as a test? I assume that a call direct to the destination number does not drop?

Thanks for the reply.

With regards to the first point in my first post, the issue remains that the system will not ring out when using the virtual extension - change it to forward to a dummy extension and that dummy extension then dials out and it works fine.

With regards to my second post, the problem still remains but if I reduce the ring time in the virtual extension this seems to help the situation.

Onto your questions and in order:

1. Yes it says terminated by provider
2. The only information I have is this 15/07/2020 20:54:45 - Leg L:4.6[Line:10003>>01XXXXX] is terminated: Cause: 487 Request Terminated/INVITE from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:5060
3. Yes, sent to another destination and the same happens.
4. That is correct; mobile to a BT number and it does not drop but is eventually picked up via the devices answerphone.
