i'll be inetersting to know how it comports. But i have no time for it now.
 
in the mean time, when you don't have software to check, you can find out what the difference in usage is on those times where the sound is choppy. Does your router have QoS? What is going on in the network at those times. Heavy traffic from computers? What is internetconnection speed download as well as upload.

Change the jitter tool in the Phone to higher and test the differences

What you could do is just the old fashioned way. Find out what happens in your office when the call gets crumpy or with unwanted sounds. Sometimes you can just find it out by logical thinking and evaluating what causes problems. Take large datausers out for a while at exact that moment, and see if phoning is improving. I think you can think of something.
And the most important thing...........it's FREE !!
 
If you only have a small network and don't have a separate switch for your sip phones, what you can also do to test if it's the internet usage of your users is what's affecting the voice traffic, you can set the speed of all the network cards of your pc's to 10mb half or full duplex instead of auto which normally gets a speed of 100mb full duplex when you have a 100mbps switch in your network.

It really depends on what you're using on your network, but this surely helps, specially if your sip phones doesn't have jitter control settings. :)
 
If you have a bit more room in your budget, it would be worthwhile considering some of the new technologies like WAN accelerators.

Exinda (http://www.exinda.com.au) have a great product that allows you to setup a range of QoS rules, VoIP-specific detailed reports and bandwidth management that allows you to setup burst-style rules for different types of traffic - and the best thing is that it detects traffic right up to layer 7.

Network-to-network they also do compression of data transfers which also helps with the available bandwidth.

One easy trap to fall into is that it is more important to setup guaranteed bandwidth for your RTP traffic than your SIP traffic as this is where the audio is coming through.

VLAN-capable switches are also becoming quite affordable and also support QoS which is what you would need if you are sharing the same infrastructure with data across a network - the explicitly forward DSCP marking is the best one to use when setting up QoS on a shared data LAN.
