Hi,

I can't find anything on the 3CX website to say whether the VoIPTools 3CX Relay agent (to be installed on a 3CX server) results in a supported 3CX configuration. I know 3rd party application/tools are discouraged.

Is this the case, or does the installation of VoIPTools 3CX Relay agent invalidate or limit 3CX support for the server?

We're interested in providing the VoIPTools solutions for our customers (I've only read positive things about them!), however I need to make sure our customer maintenance agreements accurately define any support limitations.

Thanks,

Ed

Supported? Not really. Allowed? Yes. Experience with it causing issues? None.

The feedback I had from VoIP Tools (and from my own experience) is that the relay is designed to funnel all the "Tools" connections from a remote server (not on 3CX).

It is definitely not supported but designed so that if 3CX do need to jump onto the server it is very quick and easy to un-install and re-install.

We use voiptools in a high call environments. 200+ Extensions are using their HTTP API to make calls, we are extracting down voicemails and recordings, and using the 3cx exporter to archive the call logs to our SQL server so we can create our own reports using reporting services. We dont have any issues. However, if you do run into a 3CX issue and need support, they will make you uninstall voiptools.

Thanks for replies all. Just to clarify, I'm not asking if VoIPTools is good or reliable - I'm just asking if there's any defined support limitations or exceptions on the 3CX server.

Sounds good that 3CX support will simply ask you to uninstall the relay agent, however, is it simple to reinstall and get the VoIPTools application(s) back up and working?

Yes its that simple to uninstall and reinstall the relay.. The owner of VOIPTOOLS use to work for 3CX if I'm not mistaken, so he sort of gets a free pass from 3cx, and they dont mind how he ties into their software. However, they do want you to uninstall the agent if you call them.

You'll want to only install the relay on the 3cx server. Setup another server to install all the tools from voip tools. The reason for this is to shed voiptools processing load from 3cx, and also making support calls easy in case you do need to uninstall, you only uninstall the agent. When you reinstall, your second server will simply reconnect to the agent.

. Although I've never had to call 3cx support.

Thanks all for your input.

@Cytranic Our main goal is for the software to function as we intended. There's really no such thing as a free pass like you describe. The fact that we will not support a system that has been altered from our intended design and will ask you to remove any additional software or customizations should be a pretty clear answer to this.

You can customize of course to your desire but when you create a scenario that the designer neither intended nor tested, it's understandable that we will ask you to return in to an unmodified state before we can provide assistance.
