Hi, I have setup an extention to use the web client - this is the first one. I have ticked 'web authentication' for the webclient in the extention setup. I have set the group membership to default and role to user - can see group members, show present to group members, etc.. I have sent out the welcome mail. I am using Chrome (yuk) as advised. I have ensured the correct password policy is being followed. The problem is the login details are not accepted.

Can anyone help?

Hi Mark,
  • Do you reach the Web Client via the FQDN using HTTPS
  • Are you using the extension number as the login, and the web authentication password?

Yes I reach the login via FQDN and/or using the IP address. Yes I use the extension as the username and I have tried various passwords all of which meet the criteria. I have made sure its random in case there is some other logic in the background which prevents certain words, phrases, passwords, etc. If I login more than XX attempts my IP is blocked. And yes......I am 100% sure I am typing the right password and that the keyboard mapping is correct. Thanks for following up. Any other ideas of what could cause this behaviour?

First check in case there any blacklisted IPs and also can you please let me know what version exactly is your PBX? (as appears on dashboard)

Hi. I can confirm that there are no blacklisted IPs - although I do get blacklisted after I attempt a few logins (which is good except the details are correct). I can also confirm that I am using Pro 16.0.2.910.

I got your message John but I cannot reply. That said I'm testing internally anyway. If I create a test extension with the same settings it works. I have tried a few existing extensions and they do not. I don't really want to delete/add extensions. Any ideas based on this new information??

Hi Mark,

I can only speculate that they may have an option that prevents them. You can open a new extension and an old problematic extension and compare them side by side in two browser windows.

You can also pick a problematic extension and hit "Regenerate" in the extensions menu to let the system generate a compatible password

Regenerated x2 extensions but no change. Compared 'new' test extension with the accounts I have been using but all settings are the same. For some reason the web client for existing extensions simply won't accept login details. Do these failures hit a log file anywhere that I could review ? Thanks.

Hi Mark,

As a last resort you can also try to use the "Copy Extension" function and select all the Extension Options to copy a problematic user and see if they will work. If they work, you can replace or at least recreate your existing extensions one by one (if you don't have hundreds of course).

Otherwise you might have to raise a case with Support via ticket in this case to analyze your instance and see if there are any issues that are not visible from the MC

Hi John, I tried the copy function but sadly get the same results when I try to login to the web client. Thanks for all your help and time.

Ok Mark, in this case you might have to contact our Support department so they can analyze your instance and see what is causing this.

If you don't have too many extensions I would suggest to delete and recreate them (or one at least as test)

I probably could delete and recreate them as I may not be rolling this out for all users. As I'm new to 3CX I'm just not sure what the process is or what the ramifications of delete them is - what if they have voicemail messages? I was also trying to swap ext numbers between phones (user1 <--> user2) but have been unabel to find links for this kind of stuff. I'm sure its easy to delete/add extensions and then assign to phones but you know what it is like when its new.

They will lose any greetings, voicemail, schedules, settings they had and will be removed from groups etc. Recordings should remain
