If I do not enable the 3CX SMTP server, is there a time limit after which any notifications that are created will be dropped from the outgoing mail queue or will they wait there until the SMTP service is enabled?

Hi @greychain,

Can you clarify what you mean by: If I do not enable the 3CX SMTP server?

If you've changed the 3CX SMTP server to some other server that doesn't work, and the mails won't be able to send. They won't try to resend after that point.

I should have said, had my mail system set to the wrong SMTP, or anything that stops it sending out messages.

So there is no time over which they are retried. If failed then drop?

Hi @greychain,

Most mails will not attempt to resend and will be removed from the queue when failing. So yes, failed means drop in almost all instances here.

OK thanks, so not like say Gmail where it'll try for a few days and then give up?

The reason I am asking is customer wants to configure his PBX and not have welcome e-mail sent until he is ready.

Then no, don't worry, put an invalid SMTP there until the system is ready and when you want to send them, switch to the 3CX SMTP, select all extensions and send.

Just wanted to clarify if there was a minimum amount of time before the queued e-mails were dumped.

No, once it fails, it fails and won't retry. The only exception is VMails that it will try to resend, but since you will be setting up the system, I doubt there will be any VMails.

Hi @greychain,

To add to what my colleague has said, remember that you also have the ability to disable the welcome email being automatically sent by disabling the option in the Management Console >> Settings >> Email >> Notifications >> uncheck: Notify user when extension is added.

This will allow you to send the Welcome Emails manually from the Users section instead.
