What is the format for outbound call display name/number?

Can't seem to find the format for this anywhere. In the extension what do I put to show a name/number for outbound display? My VoIP provider does pass what I send over. In asterisk you would enter outbound call display as:

"John Smith" <416-123-1234>

But not sure how to do that. I tried that format and it won't complete the call so just left it as a number but now when I call people it doesn't show my name anymore. Anyone know?

Am uncertain, but I think your SIP provider may be able to help. They might be able to tell you which of the available fields in the VoIP Provider outbound parameters may give them what you seek to pass.

Have you tried an underscore in place of a space, or a single word, as a test. Other than enclosing in quotes, I'm not sure that there would be a lot of options. Generally, there are two places for a name, in the set itself, and in the 3CX extension settings. It could be an either or.
