Afternoon Chaps

Slight problem!

Just created a new 3CX trial (Standard) but accidently used an email address that was already assigned to another 3CX license. The PBX Express has finished successfully but now I have inadvertently redirected an existing client's FQDN to the wrong AWS Lightsail box.

The DNS records have already propagated (took 5 min!!).

I need to fix, suggestions?

I am thinking, restore their backup to the new AWS instance where the FQDN now points? Or is there a quick way to just point the FQDN back to the correct instance? Luckily, it is 4:53pm and this client is a builders merchants who finish at 4:30pm. So I have all night to sort this.

Thanks

Hi

So am i right in thinking

Existing Company FQDN is now point to an incorrect IP address?

If that is the case you could change IP on the existing customer box to dynamic and that should update 3cx DNS to the existing ip of current customer AWS

I think...... thats if i have your predicament the right way around

That is change the ip on the information screen in 3cx to dynamic

Make sure to shutdown the new instance before trying this

Brill thanks this is exactly what I needed! How long does it take to update on 3CX's side?

Not sure exactly, normally a few mins

then after its updated you can change back to static

How did you manage to do that?

If i try create a new PBX instance it tells me my email has already been used

It did say that, but carried on!? >.< - Also I wasn't sure how much it mattered. This is only my 3rd instance and I didn't realise that the email address was the defining peice of information. I thought it was the license key itself.

Is there no better way for 3CX partners to provision the free standard instances without having to go through the "Try 3CX" form every time? If not I am going to have to create an email alias for each of my clients.

You should use your partner binding link, but you do need an email address for each instance

Log in to your partner portal > Keys > Create Try Key

Thanks chaps for your help I will ensure I create keys that way in future.

The switching of the IP to dynamic didn't help. The DNS records are still wrong.

I'm not sure what else to do now. I can release the FQDN but how easily can I re-assign it again?

Should I just restore my backup to the new instance with the correct IP?

hold the phone... just found another article that said to set it to dynamic and restart services. This appears to have worked, just waiting for DNS propagation :D

Crikey what an embarrasment :(

excellent..... thought that i should have worked, forgot about the services
