Hey guys,
I have got a bit of an issue with some yealink phones and making them compatible with 3CX. It is not an issue with 3CX rather yealink. So I have also reached out to them. But I am just wondering if anyone on here has a solution.
Here is the story:
I had a phone (yealink T48s) that a was struggling to setup with 3CX I would assign it to a user and it would still say new (rather than assign to user). I found out it had old firmware so I am now trying to upgrade it. It is currently on 66.82.0.20 however when I tried to update it to the latest. That didnt work. So i read around on the 3CX site and found that you need to upgrade to 66.84.0.35 first. I have tried that and its not working still. I had a T46S that was working but during a firmware update the power cord got bumped out. I had to restore it and it went back to the 66.82.0.20 firmware and now it is doing the same thing.

What it is doing
I log into the IP address of the phone go to settings upgrade put the firmware I am updating to in there. The phone turns off does the firmware update but as it switches on it comes up with update and counts down for 5 seconds. If nothing is touched it does a firmware downgrade back to 66.82.0.20. I can press cancel and if i check the firmware it is the one that I am updating to. However when the phone restarts it downgrades the firmware to 66.82.0.20 again

So you probably want to go to the Yealink forums, but I'm guessing there's another intermediate firmware you need to ugprade before the 84.0.35

I was able to get one handset setup.

However now when I am plugging in a new handset I can see the phone there but when I assign it to an extension it shows in the extension but doesnt change from new. Could that be a 3CX issue? It is all local network. This is the first system I have setup so I am far from an expert.

Do you run a local DHCP server with boot options (look up DHCP Option 66 for example).

Make sure this is not the case, as it will interfere with phone provisioning.

Perhaps you are in a corporate environment that someone set up before you were hired?

I had mine working but it said it had an old firmware. Logged onto the phone and upgraded to 66.85.0.5 now cannot dial out through 3CX (just sits there saying 'ringing') and when tries ext to ext (iPhone) rings, but won't connect. No idea, but I assume it's a firmware issue (but maybe not).

Thank you for your kind welcome.

I was not hijacking the tread, and was in the process of raising a new one with my details, when searching (usually recommended, maybe my confusion?) found this, so:
1: confirmed you can update directly on the phone, and,
2: warned it might not be the end of HIS problems.

Of course you can update via the phone web interface. The inability to update has nothing to do with the method, it has to do with an incompatibility, usually when jumping several versions. That is mentioned here and the op mentions reading that article

So the fact that you can upgrade via the web interface has no bearing unless you were also on 6.82.0.20 like the op but there is no mention of what version you were on before you upgraded.

Are these brand new phones? Have you tried factory resetting them before trying to upgrade? It almost sounds like they are provisioning against another server (maybe RPS) and that's why they are downgrading.

Yeah they are brand new phones. If I switch them on without network it is even on newer firmware but as soon as I connect network it downgrades it? Why would it be doing that? Ive factory reset and tried just about everything I can think of to get it to work.

No I don't. I checked that out. I also tried setting the phone up on my home network and it seems to be doing the same thing. As soon as I connect the phone to a network with internet it downgrades the firmware

I will have to side with @cobaltit on this one since they are brand new phones and auto downgrading from a reset state. Sounds like they are being remote provisioned against some other RPS server (perhaps the supplier you bought them from may know more).

You can try and add 1 of those as STUN, and then check my Event log on the dashboard to see if the RPS request was delivered successfully.

If yes = try to reset and upgrade the firmware, it should not downgrade again after reboot

If no = it could be an indication that there is indeed an RPS entry from somewhere else, that references the MAC addresses of the phones you now own.

Yeah turns out the manufacturer has an RPS setup. Even though I specifically asked and was told no. Thank you all for your support. Sorry for such a trivial question.

No worries, glad you were able to get an answer
