Hi all,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We're in Pennsylvania with about 30 users and looking to come back to using 3CX, probably the hosted version. We used to have 3CX on an internal server, so I have about 5 years experience managing 3CX v16 and T46G phones, including custom templates. We used a 3rd party phone provider for a while, but now looking to bring a 3CX server back under our control.

We currently still have the Yealink T46G phones, which I see are EOL, but we don't have budget to buy new phones until late 2022. Are there current 3CX users out there who still have T46G phones in service who can offer advice on whether using T46G phones with 3CX v18 is a valid path? What are gotchas that I need to plan for as we deploy 3CX v18?

TIA.

These are legacy phones due to owl, but still supported in 3cx https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/yealink-t4-series/

If you go down the hosted solution, you will need a sbc server https://www.3cx.com/docs/3cx-tunnel-session-border-controller/

Note : 3cx hosted solution does not allow custom templates, and the sip provider has to be approved - look at limitations https://www.3cx.com/ordering/pricing/hosted-info/

If you host the server in the cloud with another cloud company, you will not have these limitations

Should have been eol

The phones are currently supported and can be configured in v18.

As the software is developed , and newer versions are released these phones may not be supported

EOL means that the manufacturer has stopped supporting them so 3CX is no longer supporting them as well. That being said, they should still work fine and I wouldn't worry about replacing them just yet.

I appreciate your feedback and advice. Can you clarify this statement about custom templates? Custom templates are indeed important to us, but I don't see this limitation discussed anywhere on the page about Hosted pricing and requirements. Hosted pricing does not include support for extensions and IP phones, much less custom IP phone templates, but there is no mention that custom templates are not allowed.

Thanks, everyone. It appears that 3CX v18 has more BLF control within the extensions than v16 had, so perhaps we don't need custom templates. We're going to move forward and try the system without custom templates and see if that will possibly meet our needs.
