I am attempting to upgrade the firmware on this Yealink T54W phone from 96.84.0.35 to the latest version 96.86.0.45. Whether I tell the firmware to update using the management console, or by manually uploading the .rom file using the phone's web interface.. it starts to upgrade and then freezes and never completes the process rendering the phone unusable. I don't know for certain how to read the log files generated by the phone, but it appears that the phone is running out of memory and is killing the update process internally without a means of restoring itself. I also wonder if I have to upgrade in stages because this jump in versions is too great, however I don't know where to locate the intermediate rom files. Any help would be appreaciated.

Information:
  • 3CX Version, Enterprise Annual, 18.0 (Build 314)
  • Server OS, Debian 9 / Raspberry Pi
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? On-premises
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware version, Yealink T54W 96.84.0.35
  • Provisioning Method: Local / VPN / SBC
  • Trunk Provider or VoIP Gateway Make/Model, Flowroute
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO

So I'm a little concerned that you put Debian 9 but your on v18. I didn't think that was a supported (or possible) combination. It's probably just a typo but I would double check.

It appears your phones and your 3CX are on different subnets. If there is some sort of smart (firewall) type device between those, that could cause an issue. I would make sure the phones are factory reset, and then try to upgrade via the web interface with the computer and phone in the same subnet it there is a smart device in between.

As far as intermediate firmware, ultimately the phones are made by Yealink, not 3CX. You would go to Yealink's website to download other firmware:

If your firmware is much older, often the phones will refuse to upgrade until you install the in-between versions. This is normal with most manufacturers.

But please be aware that Yealink faced a T5 series firmware issue in the past which led some phones getting stuck.

They provided a solution here, make sure you read this carefully to be fully informed on how to proceed

Thank you for the link to yealink support.. I thought this was a 3CX specific issue, but I see now that it was a yealink issue.. My difficulties have been resolved!

Glad to hear! Thanks for confirming it was resolved
