Does anyone know if you are able to put multiple Yealink W52P DECT stations around an office and the wireless phones will automatically use the closest one? Or is each base station tied to one phone?

Not possible with this class of products

You mean only for Yealink? Or all DECT products?

Panasonic KX-UDS124 with handsets KX-UDT111/121/131 and some high-end Gigaset DECTs support multi-cell operation.
May be some other brands too, I have tested the above with 3CX.
Yealink is not making multi-cell DECT solutions.

Reading the link, you have to register the handsets with each base thus you are limited to 5 handsets per base - not sure if it works as we have never tried it.

Depends on the setup - no of phones, size of building, etc you are probably better off with multi-cell solution.
