We are using 3CX v20 Hosted at 3CX and want to hide caller id and displayname for inbound calls, we already managed to hide the caller id using Reformat inbound rule, but have not found a way to hide the From:DisplayName and our customer requires this for privacy compliance for incoming calls.

It seems it was possible through the interface before v20 but they did remove it from interface.

Thanks.

I would think that you'd have to modify the trunk template to "take" the caller ID information from a field, where it does not actually exist. Not something that the majority of users are trying to do.

I thought about it, but i am looking for an alternative so I do not have to redo all the trunks with all the changes implies on call handling, outbound rules, ring groups, etc.

Edit the trunk template and then "Sync" your trunks.

We have tested updating the template for the trunk removing all the inbound parameters but it is still showing a text and do not know how to remove it or where it comes from?

Hello,

Update 9 will contain much better template customization options - perhaps that will help. And to clarify, you want that information to not exist in the logs at all, or only on the answering devices/apps?

At this moment we want to remove the information from answering devices/apps, but in the future, we might want also to remove it from logs.

This is a high-priority requirement from our customer to hide caller name and phone number. So, far we only have been able to hide the phone number, but it is still showing caller name even after modifying the template.

Will the new update address this? Do you have any information on when it will become available?

Thanks.

You may also check blog post here where it clarifies the new capability introduced in Update9 to update the template on demand from the PBX and sync directly.

We have been testing on update 9 and new features are welcome to sync and tune the templates but does not seem to help on this particular customization we want to do.

We have tested totally removing input parameters for $CallerName and $CallerNum and it still shows a name. The phone number is replacing no issue with the reformatting rule.

Is it possible to just hide or replace the name displayed for inbound calls for all receiving devices/apps?

PD: Phone picture shows a different text for number replacement, but result is the same.

@franciscoa if this comes on the From Display Info, this can not be re-written.
This is something you can ask from your VoIP Provider not to send on the PBX.

  • These rules will not rewrite the incoming “From:Display” value, i.e. if the call has been received with +18135910130, the display will still show this number, while the “core part” of the number to be dialed has been updated.

It seems we found a workaround that work, creating a phonebook entry, replacing inbound caller id phone number to match the phonebook entry.
