Hi,

I have a quick question regarding a 16 SC licence with an 80-extension limit.

We're getting close to the 80-extension threshold. Of the 61 extensions currently assigned, 15 are virtual extensions used for call forwarding within the IVR.

Can you confirm whether these 15 virtual extensions count towards the 80-extension limit if we exceed it?

I had a look through some forum discussions which suggest that virtual extensions may not be counted in the same way as full user extensions, but I wanted to verify this with you.

Thanks in advance.
Michael

I don't know if you can see it but as a partner we can see the count in our end when we start to renew. Just below the line "Subscription expires in" is an extension count.

AFAIK all defined Users count. You can maybe convert some to CFD or other solution?

Appreciate the answer I can see from the dashboard the user count at the moment its 63/80 and within the 63 - 18 are virtual.
Will try and tighten up the virtual extensions count, there are some duplicates.

Thanks again

For forwarding I use a IVR. After 1 sec forward to an internal or external number. You could also use an RingGroup for this. In this way you do not need an user for forwarding. It is also possible to use opening hours in this setup for conditional forwarding.

Yes, every set-up user counts.

When I read this,
15 are virtual extensions used for call forwarding within the IVR.
the question arises: what type of call forwarding is being used for these users?

All other 3CX entities - such as Ring Groups, IVRs, departments, and call scripts - are not counted for licensing.

Call scripts offer a wide range of forwarding options. Use them if possible.

I know that system extensions don't count towards licensing and I can justify user extensions that are used for call flow purposes and not users. What I can't justify is System Owner extensions being counted towards the extension limits. As an MSP that provides total support for 3CX v20 for our many customers, each member of my team has their own System Owner extension. This allows us to prove accountability through change logs of who made what change, when the change was made, and potentially why. Sure, I can have 1 system owner account that all administrators can use, but that greatly reduces visibility into who made changes. Additionally, that still uses up an extension within licensing that for us, will never serve as an operational extension within call flow.

Either an option within the extension needs to setup where it removes its extension features, thus removing from the extension count or a new owner type needs to be created that serves the same purpose, such as MSP Owner or IT Owner .. the latter making the most sense.
