Hi Guys,

Can you enlighten me if this link provides accurate info on the limitations of 3CX?
https://www.bvoip.com/3cx-connectwise-integration-what-you-need-to-know

And if there's an item that is not true, can you please indicate it here? My goal is not to spread hate with this other vendor but to know the current limitations of 3CX when it comes to integrations. Thank you!

Hello @oxybubbles,

I'll answer each item here:
1) Regarding "ConnectWise Cloud vs On-Prem". This is correct, 3CX integrates with the cloud version of ConnectWise.

2) Regarding "ConnectWise Certification". Our integration is not certified by ConnectWise, but you need to know the following:
  • We run rigorous tests for this integration. This includes automatic tests which are executed every day. Manual tests that we do with every release of 3CX (which believe me, evolves much faster than ConnectWise). And we're actively monitoring any change in the ConnectWise API, so we can make any corrections before these changes go live.
  • A certification made by ConnectWise would not be a solution, because they would test this once with a specific version of 3CX, instead of keep testing this over and over as we do.

3) Regarding "ConnectWise Web Client vs .NET (Fat)Client". This is NOT correct. The 3CX Desktop App is a Windows app and supports the integration.

4) Regarding "Windows vs. Mac Support". This is NOT correct, you can use the integration from Mac using the Web client.

5) Regarding the mentioned integrations, 3CX integrates with ConnectWise in the following way:
  • When an inbound call arrives, the contact will be taken from ConnectWise and shown in the 3CX client (importing the contact into 3CX Contacts is optional).
  • When the contact is not found in ConnectWise, it will be automatically created (depending on configuration).
  • The 3CX Web Client will automatically open the contact record in a new browser tab.
  • When the call ends, a new call activity will be created in the CRM (depending on configuration). This can be stored as an activity or a note (configurable).
  • We also support chat journaling, so the chats interactions you have from the 3CX client can be automatically logged in ConnectWise (as activities or notes).

Hope the information helps.

Regarding #1, I've used it with on prem no issue, I'm not sure why this is stated as a limitation - likely it's just that 3CX doesn't want to claim it's support, but it works all the same here.

Thanks for your feedback. Actually, we don't have an on-premise installation for testing, so we can't test in this environment. This is why we don't mention it as supported, but as you mentioned, some customers have this working without issues.

Thank you for the feedback!!! As I've said, I don't want to spread hate but just want clarity on what 3CX can bring. All the best!

Several years ago we built an integration with Connectwise. To my horror, at least at the time, Connectwise wanted $7,000 a year for their certification process. I do not know what the requirements are today, but I thought that fee was unusually high. I understand that they incur some expense for testing, but if felt a lot more like extortion.

It's $7500 as of 2020, and I can only imagine it's gotten worse.
