Trying to get 3cx fax server to receive via voip provider. Currently only works for faxes from our Patton gateway.

Forced G711U, but the 3cx fax server hangs up after 1 second, even when i try test calling from an extension. Is there a way to disable FOIP?

Any other solutions for fax-to-email from voip provider?

Thanks

The fax server is wanting to use t38 as the protocol which is the generally accepted more robust method for FoIP. Your provider should be t38 capable in order to use effectively. g711 is an audio codec which is not as tolerant of the latency and other issues associated to internet carriage when faxing. The Patton can get away with it as when sending to 3CX there is only the local network to contend with and it also accommodates t38 as well as g711. If sending to the 3CX fax server extension, it likely converts to t38. Using g711 can be very challenging and is more prone to failure the longer the fax.

Hi Ineblett,
Thanks for the response, i am aware that G711U isn't the best for faxing. I however dedicated a solid fiber internet connection to VOIP exclusively and want to give it a try. Do you know of anyways to get the 3CX fax server to play ball?

Is it possible? if not, are there any other SIP Fax clients that could convert to PDF? My client is spoiled on the fax to PDF functionality now and doesnt want to go back to wasting paper.

Thanks so much!

I only know that
The 3CX Fax Receiving Server does not support G.711 for fax.

ok... im now investigating if its possible to connect the patton 4960 to the sip account, so that faxes will flow through it and then to the 3cx fax server

You might be better asking your provider if they can do fax to email at network level. This also then has the benefit of not using your 3CX Channel licence and can be left dealing only with voice.
