Solved 3CX - Google Storage Bucket Move Data

I'm curious as to how 3CX correlates data in Google Storage Bucket with the needs of the PBX. I know I said that badly, let me try to explain.


We have a bunch of PBXes where people used an improper path for destinations for recordings and backups. 3CX seemed to work okay when moving backups from local disk up to Google via gsutil. I assume it'll still work fine when I adjust the path the data is stored in.

Can I just move the recordings folders into the right spots as well and re-point where 3CX is archiving to?

FYI: Just move it via:

gsutil -m mv gs://old_path gs://new_path

Then update the location in the recordings location. 3CX seems to be none the wiser that things moved.

There's no secret metadata or anything. They are just ZIP files. So you just move them (or don't). If you are only rotating a weeks worth of backups, point it to the new location, wait a week, then nuke the old folder/location. But your method works and, as you noted, 3CX is none the wiser.

Yeah, backups are nice, but then call recordings are something that one would have to attend to.

Backups should be fine, move them to your Google bucket, then point the PBX there using the "Google Storage" option.



Recordings are a bit different, they require that you have them on local storage (HDD or SSD) and you cannot simply move them. For those you should keep using a local drive, and when you want to move them use "Remote Archiving" and point it to your "Google Storage" option. Then, you can allow the archiving job to take care of moving the recordings. If you try moving them manually, you will most likely end up with a bunch of inaccessible recordings.

I had meant once the recordings were archived, if they were okay to move.

They seem to be.


They were archived into the wrong folder path, so I used the above referenced command to put them into the right place.
