3CX on appliance vs VM? Linux vs Windows?

Is there a benefit in terms of voice quality in installing 3CX on a physical PC/server instead of a VM (clock issues that may affect VMs on certain hypervisors)?

Also, is there a benefit (besides the financial savings of the OS license) in installing 3CX on Debian instead of Windows?

Use whatever you are comfortable with. Any perceived benefit in any scenario is potentially offset by your inability to support it. 3CX was originally Windows only and bare metal only so historically that would be the best supported environment. Clock issues in VMs are due to people not reading the setup guide and are not 3CX specific.

I will say this....

We over the last 10+ years had historically installed on Windows or Windows VM. I can tell you that we now never do that given the benefit of learning and maintaining 3CX on Linux.

Yes, there is a learning curve, but once you get there it is a significantly more simple platform to support.

Of course, this is just opinion!

In what ways is Linux easier to support? I don't have experience with 3CX on Linux. I have 3CX set up on four different Windows VMs or bare metal, and it's been rock solid.

In no particular order:

SSH Command line. Allows scripted updates, with two commands.
The machines never have to be rebooted (so far).
It uses significantly less power / cpu cycles to run.
AWS, Azure, Google, hosting in general is simple.
as above... its QUICK to roll out online, like 15 mins and you have a fully functional 3CX.

However, its worth noting, we still have some Windows sites
