Hi Team,

I want to upgrade a customers old 3CX Server which is outside of support. I'm going to change them over to the freebie 16-SC key, however with their old version of 3CX, you simply can't change the license key which is a shame.

Therfore, is it possible install the latest version, restore the customers backup, but choose the new License key? - Or is the license key embedded into the backup file so it can't be changed?

Thanks in advance team!
- Jay

Hello @JayNZ !

This topic looks right, just take a look about save :

11902

You can untick Licence key/FQDN, then you'll just have a neutral backup to put on the licence key that you want !

You said old 3cx server, in which version is it?

If you running V14 then there is no option to exclude the licence key from the backup. You will need to change a digit to make the key invalid.
Then perform a backup and save it to a non 3CX location.
Un-install V14 and install V15.5
Restore your backup through the installation wizard.
You will be asked for a licence key and FQDN during that procedure.
You can then complete the installation by following the installation wizard

Terrific thanks kindly for all the feedback everyone. The customer has a 15.5 Server so I can backup without the license information and FQDN.

Thanks again!

Hey Team,

Just checking the customer is using a DNS Binding to <customer>.3cx.co.nz however from recent clients which I've setup recently, this Domain is no longer available and new installs all seem to use my3cx.nz - Is there any way I can keep the old DNS domain or have 3CX disallowed this for any new installations? Any chance you can chime in again Yiannis?

Thanks,
Jay

When a key is activated the FQDN is bound to that key. As long as you do not release it the FQDN will stay bound to that key.
Since you are planning to change the key however you will not be able to use the same FQDN. You will need to get a new FQDN and the ones available at the moment are the "my3cx.co.nz".

BTW @YiannisH_3CX ,

Do you have a reason why FQDN switch to .my3cx ? (same for France)

Hi @YiannisH_3CX

Thanks kindly for your guidance on this one. It's a shame the old domains are no longer available, the looked more professional for our business customers.

Cheers,
Jay
