Hello Internets,

We are deploying some 20-30 CanaKit SBCs. Everything went great with home users that had Xfinity cable modems. I then had two users who are CenturyLink DSL customers and they have Zyxel C3000Z DSL modems.

My assumption is that it is some magical sequence of configuration options in the DSL modem. The GUI of that device is FAR more complicated than a home based solution should be. I did the basics by disabling the firewall and toggling the SIP ALG on / off - and had ZERO luck. The Yealink consistently went into No Service.

There is no problem with IP connectivity on the LAN segment of this DSL modem. Unfortunately, the staff that provisioned the SBC did not leave SSH enabled on the LAN interface so I can't pull logs.

Questions:
1. Anyone dealt with this DSL modem before?
2. Where are the SBC logs stored?
3. Any other basic troubleshooting I can do?

3CX 16.0.8.9
SBC 18.1.36

But the phone would NEVER appear in the 3CX MC.

I think this was your problem all along: multicast messages from the phone could not reach the SBC.

If you can't see the device in the MC, you cannot provision it

If the device is not provisioned, it says "no service"

Perhaps those modems block local multicast messages.

In extreme cases like this, the solution is to manually configure the MAC in an extension, then feed the phone the URL and it should come up after a reboot.

Can't say enough about the 3CX community and the support team on this forum. What a breath of fresh air after 20 years of Cisco shiza.

John,

Do we also have to add the "provisioning URL" to the phone on the SBC LAN segment of the home user?

Or do you think it is sufficient to feed the phone the static IP of the SBC ( which we hard code when we provision it) AND manually build the phone in the 3CX MC.

You shouldn't have to do anything to the phone, manually. If it is behind an SBC, and all is working correctly, it will show as a new phone in 3CX, and you assign it to an extension. It configures itself.

If the phone and SBC are plugged into the ISP modem (?) then you could try a cheap 5 port switch between them and the modem.

You need to factory reset the phone, and only paste the provisioning link - this takes care of the problem entirely.

Do not edit the fields manually in the phone.
