I just started the trail and so far so good. I got the 3CX BPX running (auto install) and also added some extensions. Softphones and iPhones work, no issues.

Now I have a Unifi Phone with all software / firmware updated and the UnifiVoIP Controller and I can't get it to work.

I read most, if not all treads on the forum, and also checked on the UniFi website but no luck.

To keep it really simple I made the user IDs and the same, yet I don't even get a log in the event log. Laptop with softphone is in the same network as the IP Phone.

I am stuck at Error 408
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Paul

@PaulEmous

Let me start you off on your journey with 3CX on the right foot.

Supported IP Phones:
https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/

(You'll probably notice a glaring omission of Ubiqutiy Networks there ...)

The Admin Guide is an excellent source and wealth of information:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/

There are various documents and how-to's here:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/

And if you get really stuck, the 3CX Community forum (which you've already found, congratulations!) is right here.

Now, all that aside an error 408 is a Request Timeout. Which means that the client isn't getting a response from the server.

You may want to check and make sure your provisioning path or server path are correct.

Yeah I got that.

I literally copied the info from the 3CX into the Unifi VoIP controller.

I need I must do something wrong because;
1 The phone doesn't register &;
2 The server isn't picking up any activity

You may want to check and make sure your provisioning path or server path are correct.

I am adding the server info manually, can you point me into a direction regarding provisioning?

@PaulEmous
If you set up a 'fake' phone, you'll see the provisioning path.
I know, I have done that already, but in the Unifi VoIP controller I can't give / set a provisioning path.

I added to my post. See the link.

I've been there, not working :/

I add in all the data and then decides to not connect.... Internet on the phone works fine.

Then I'd seriously consider a phone that was on the supported list.

If you want something that you can surf the net with, look at the Yealink T58A.
If you want a good solid phone that isn't expensive, look at the Yealink T4x series.
If you want a decent phone that is really inexpensive, look at the Yealink T2x series.

Snom is also a good choice.

I appreciate the ideas but that is not helping me at the moment.

On another note: I am getting errors in the log:
11/27/2018 12:27:29 AM - [CM102001]: Authentication failed for AuthFail Recv Req REGISTER from 68.183.132.124:58917 tid=fb1a30746b62db16fa45f1623bee8eec328afd2d6145069b0ab9509b9c43b4 Call-ID=50ea723b35517162740c2d242c5f3e49:

Ah! I am getting the Unifi Phone in the log.

Well then. Sounds like an authentication issue. Follow the document from Ubi's website carefully.

If you have not already followed the Initial Configuration steps in this article Standalone UniFi VoIP Phone Configuration Guide please complete these before continuing. If you have any questions about the following settings or what they mean please refer to the article above in the SIP Configuration section.

The fields that you need to fill in here are below.

  • User name: Set it to the value you used in the Extension number field in the User information section shown above
  • Password: Set it to the value of the Password field in the Authentication section
  • Voicemail number: 999
Also, mask your IP and any personally identifying information from the log.

No luck yet. Is it possible that the 3CX Softphone uses encryption, something that my IP Phone doesn't have?

@PaulEmous
Are the phone and 3CX PBX on the same LAN?

No they are not. As mentioned in the OP, I am running the trial on Google Cloud.

However I briefly was running a VPN (just connecting outside of the country) on the gateway and that is when I saw connectivity linked to Unifi on the 3CX server.

So... perhaps that might be an issue. Hence the question if 3CX Softphone communicated with the some soft of encryption.

I am trying to connect to the FQDN

The softphone uses port 5090 to communicate over a private tunnel (by default).
The phone would need either a proper STUN configuration, or an SBC to hide behind so it, too, could communicate over port 5090.

If you are configuring STUN, you will need to ensure that the proper firewall ports have been opened to allow that communication to take place.

I would recommend using an SBC simply because you don't have to tweak firewall ports or open anything up since the request is initiated by the SBC and all subsequent traffic to the PBX goes over 5090.

Nowhere in your original post does it say that you're running the trial on google cloud. It says, and I quote:

If you're going to be like that, then consider this my last 'free' help to you.

Best of luck.

I figured it out. It's indeed a blocked port (or blocked package), I activated the VPN and in no time the phone got connected. So it works.

Thanks for the input, I will look at the SBC however this is just for testing purposes.

I really do actually really appreciate your feedback. I think you are mis-judging my messages.

Moving on, I think the issue is port 5090 indeed or just the fact that loads of protocols are blocked here. VPN fixed that issue.

Thanks again. :)

@PaulEmous

More than likely you didn't uncheck the box that says 'disallow use outside of LAN' for that extension. Tunnel is considered internal which is why the softphone would work.

Nah, I wish. :)

I read your posts about that earlier and did that. Nothing.... So as said, I was messing with a VPN connection and all of a sudden it worked.

It works not, sounds is great, just really unfortunate the address book also doesn't sync.
