Unsupported 3cx to Asterisk based Hylafax server

We are implementing an on-site 3cx PBX. I would like to have some of our DID's be routed by 3cx to our Asterisk server to be answered by a Hylafax server. This is inbound only. Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to accomplish this? Can it be done with a bridge?

Some users say they have managed in the past to Bridge 3CX with an Asterisk system, but note that this is not supported so 3CX would not be able to help you set it up.

I was able to get this working with a bridge to the asterisk box, then an inbound rule that numbers to xxxyyyy go to an outside extension wwwyyyy, and an outbound rule that numbers with www go over the bridge stripping off the www. not quite as elegant as i would like. i was hoping there was a way to configure the extension yyyy so that 3cx new that it was on the other side of the bridge and didnt require the forward and outbound rules.
