@Nick Galea Thanks for the reply. I'm guessing I should run the update to SP2 first, then update to 9 using the script, which is listed here https://www.3cx.com/blog/docs/upgrading-debian/

We are working on it.. join our test flight - we need iphone X users on board.... We are working mainly with testflight users especially on iphone X.

Yes follow that guide and you will upgrade your debian install. The guide tells you to uninstall 3CX so you still need to backup and uninstall.
Another route is backup, delete machine, recreate new using 3CX ISO for debian 9 https://downloads.3cx.com/downloads/debian9iso/debian-9.2.1-amd64-netinst-3cx.iso and restore backup.

You can but you have to download the .ical file, open it with outlook, then invite attendees in outlook. I like the google calendar method which allows you to invite from there. The problem with that is that chrome blocks the pop-up. Fixable, but I would have to do that on each user's browser, which is a pain.

Most of the users that I oversee would like to keep the old method of emailing attendees. Partly because they hate change, partly because it was quick and simple.

Can we have both the new way and the old way?

We are going to add code to detect if popups are blocked - so you know from before. Thanks for the feedback
We will not make both ways. The old way was a source of many many issues.

I do not know the source of what problems the old method was, but it works perfectly. The new method is much worse. Add the old functionality to audio conferences. I mean the functionality that the server would ring the conference participants at the appointed time.

Re server ringing conference at the appointed times - no conference server on earth works like this. What if you are away or out of offfice? Of your profile changes? Trust me. That approach is not good.
Conferences philosophy was always one where we all meet at the same spot. We need to do something to get there. Dial a number, click on a link, install a plugin, etc. How it is now, is the correct way moving forward for all. Yes it will make some users unhappy - but you get the same result. Lets get used to this new approach and move forward.

If you want it the old way, create your own dialer and get them to call your users. You will see that the effort required for you to do this will be just too much for what you get. Just get the email, call the number and you are in. No one needs to be calling you to join a conference.
 
It is unfortunate that you do not want to listen to your customers. I agree with your approach, but leave the old functionality too. Who wants to use the new method, who does not want the old. I'm very disappointed with the new update, it's the worst update in 8 years as I use your program. Have to stay on the old version.

Can't you simply split conference into two separate activities -- one for creating conference call ad hoc -- adding extensions and external numbers / contacts and ringing them immediately and second -- scheduling a conference for a future moment -- than probably you can use calendars, if 3cx doesn't want old method of emailing attendees being furthermore used ?
I think this will make customers happy. Finally speaking of keeping customers satisfied with 3CX.

Staying on an older version because of this will make you more disappointed in the future. I strongly disagree with your approach.
No We cannot afford to have both mechanisms there.
Also, thinking forward, we need to start moving our users to webrtc conferencing not remain stuck on audio conferences where you need a phone or sip client. This is the vision. That you can join the conference from any location just with a browser. With webmeeting conferencing is is already possible. But more updates are coming in this area this time involving the webclient. Conference setup should be lightweight and fast. Building up calls and targeting conference participants when they might not even be at their desk is just a wrong concept. The participant has to join the conference and not the server forces the participant to connect..

Thank you for sharing your vision of the future development of the program. I will not enter the discussion. Just once again I'll repeat the functionality when the server calls the participants of the audio conference is in demand. Correctly this is not correct just leave the implementation of this functional in some other form not as an audio conference and develop those further new forms of teamwork.

On a previous thread regarding the beta release I read of some issues with the Fanvil handsets e.g. not being able to provision without reboot etc. We use Fanvil on the majority of our installations, are we safe to perform the upgrade?

your reference is in relation to Hotdesking and this is the reason why the devices are not supported for it. But as you dont have this "deployment type" in SP1 you are good to go! ;-)

Thanks for the update - highly appreciated.
For GDPR, other laws and real call center experience it would be helpful, if for silent monitoring and voice recording you could select:
  • Agent only
  • 3rd party only
  • both sides (which is the current option)
