We have an active V15.5.20000.6 installation operational on Win Server 2012 R2. We want to keep the production server running, install V16 on a different physical server, using a V15 backup from the production server. Then disconnect the V15 server from the domain. Change the static IP of the V16 server to the original IP... reboot the V16 server and confirm operation. In this way, if we have a problem, we can disconnect the V16 server... reconnect the V15 and determine the source of the issue, losing minimal downtime for our phones.

Will this work? We've completed the V15 backup, started the V16 install on a a Win Server 19 computer, but when we get the page showing "new installation, restore a backup, restore a config"... when we try to upload the backup, nothing happens. Thank you for pointing out what we are doing wrong.

This will not work, you need to switch off the old server during the installation of the new server - you will have issues with fqdn and licensing

How big is your backup

Do you get the option when restoring from backup to select the v15 backup file

Thanks for the help. 14GB. To confirm, we need to start over the install.
1. Copy the backup to the new server
2. Stop the current V16 install.. uninstall?
Change the IP of the new server to the correct IP
Confirm antivirus is not messing with the two 3CX directories
Disable the network adapters as suggested in a clean (first time) install... same with power saving
3. Reboot new server. Install 3CX v 16
4. "restore" the V15 backup when asked instead of the "new install" option.

Anything we have wrong?

Looks correct, just remember to switch off the old server after step 1

With the backup being 14gb in size, could take same time to upload to new server - just be patient

Also take note you need server 2016 / 2019 to run 3cx

Thanks so much... But when we "upload" the backup.. the file name should quickly appear in the file window, correct?
