3CXSBC Service failed to start (Windows)

Hi,

I am attempting to install 3CX SBC (Windows) and keep getting the same error:

Service '3CX Session Border Controller' (3CXSBC) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I have attempted installing on admin accounts, and from a command prompt session opened with the "run as administrator" option. I have tried both methods on 2 different machines with the same outcome. The only similarity in the machines is Windows 10.

How can I get past this error?

I have had this error before and right clicking amend "running as administrator " has always been the fix.

Ensure you have your Windows updates and .NET framework up to date and also give the machine a reboot.

There should be local SBC logs and a configuration file on that machine to, worth checking this out also.

Hey Edd, appreciate the reply. But as noted above I've run it from administrator accounts, with the "run as administrator" shortcut (ctr+shift+enter), and from an elevated command prompt ---- on two machines, on different networks, from different manufacturers. Entirely reproducible, the exact same error....

Any other ideas?

Try setting the DNS of the machine to the google dns (8.8.8.8) and flush your DNS after that. Then try to re-install the SBC and make sure that nothing else is using port 5060 on the machine.

I changed the DNS settings, flushed the DNS, and confirmed nothing is running on port 5060.

Perhaps I should note that the my 3CX PBX install is running in AWS (setup via PBX Express), running a professional license (if relevant).

Note that when I deliberately/incorrectly set the "Local IP Address" field during the 3CX SBC install to the ip address of the local machine on which I am installing the SBC, then the install works fine.

But when I use either the internal or external IP addresses (both found in settings->Network->Public IP) then I get the error posted above. So it is unlikely to be truly a "permissions" issue.

Is there anything special that needs to be done when the server is running on the Amazon cloud? (Again, it was configured via the 3cx PBX Express install)

In the quoted sentence I meant of course the internal or external IP address of the 3CX cloud server hosted in AWS. Sorry for the confusion.

Please note that on the Windows SBC setup the local IP SHOULD be the local IP of the SBC. The installation wizard does not ask you for the local IP of the PBX.
