8SC Perpetual vs 16SC Annual Free

So I'm trying to understand if there is any benefit to renewing a customer on 8SC Standard Perpetual at $149/yr vs 8SC Standard Annual $0/yr license. I know the free licenses have changed and possibly will change in the future but as of right now trying to make the best move before paying for a perpetual renewal that could be free.
