Hello,

I discovered the feature of V16 => Alternative Proxy.
We checked and seems there is some delay before switching of proxy

is it expected ?

When the main proxy is back up , the trafic flow again to the primary proxy ?

Thanks

and what happens in case no registration is used ?

as soon as the primary registrar fails, it will try the alternative one (for IP Based registrars)

this means you will have to make at least one call for example (to trigger the fail scenario) otherwise the system will not know that the server failed

There is no registrar on the primar, so what ?
I have shutdown the primary SBC and the call isn't flowing to the alternate proxy.

You did not say how the system is set up, but I think you are describing a different scenario here.

The SBC is for the phones to reach the PBX.

The alternate proxy is for the PBX to reach the provider

SBC = Provider Proxy
So i setup a primary hostname (the Provider PBX) and an alternate proxy.
It's IP Based.

I shutdown the provider primary proxy and the call is not sent to the alternate proxy ( i wait 1 minute)

Hey, can someone help? The question I ask myself is : will the traffic be sent to the alternative proxy in a case we receive no response from the first proxy? What happens when sending a packet to the main host and we receive no response to the request ...

Your system does not yet know that the primary is down. Did you try to make a call (which will fail) and see if the system will try the alternative one? The 32 seconds needs to expire after you attempt to make an outgoing call

Yes i tried to make a call and the call failed.

ok so now after the failure and 32 seconds, the next call should go to the alternative proxy

LOL we have to wait 32 seconds ????

Yes, the session timer needs to expire as per the SIP protocol in this case (ie. if an INVITE is sent and no response message is received, that specific INVITE will timeout in 32 seconds)

and what happens if the user cancel the call before the timeout?

The call goes to the same destination as the destination is still considered valid. For a destination to be considered not responding the PBX has to try to reach it for 32 seconds. Then the next call will route to the alternative proxy. This is per RFC and cannot be changed.
