15.5.15502.6 on server 2012r2 vm with up to date GA android mobile clients
i setup a page group and put all office numbers on it. when i dial the group the page works as it should however people that have mobile clients on their extension receive a call that rings once on their mobile client.

not sure if i should post this on the mobile client forum but figured this could be a phone system issue.

any ideas

i'm trying to upload a video of what this looks like but wmv extension is not allowed. is there anyway to send a visual?

Hi Shawn,

The way paging works is that extensions are being polled and answer automatically to the page group.

Your deksphone and your mobile client are now ringing.

As soon as your deskphone answers the call, your mobile client gets the message to stop ringing because the call was answered on the deskphone, and in conclusion this describes the behavior you see which is normal and expected.

thank you john, that is good information and understood however, i have to raise the question to 3cx. is this really how paging should work. the paging is setup under ring groups and has it's own category. surely 3cx can code this into the software where if a notification is being sent from an extension that is setup as a page group, then don't send a push notification through fcm.

any comments? perhaps this is something that needs to be (or maybe it already is) posted in the ideas forum (i'll check).

Essentially the way paging works, it will ring all your devices (hardware and softphone) and whichever one answers first will play the paging stream while the rest will receive a cancel ringing message.

i realize that's the way paging is currently working however my question is: is this a good way that it's working and does it make sense?

why would you page / intercom a mobile client when it does not have the ability to auto answer and it doesn't make any sense to page a mobile phone anyway.

using this system as it is currently working will result in about 10 people's mobile phones ringing once, every time someone pages the zones that they are in. does that make any sense?

Yes - it makes sense if you are a customer that needs to page android devices

You are a doctor and you are away from your deskphone which you set as explicit DND, you wish to answer the page group call when a nurse calls for emergency for any available doctor. This is one example. it may not apply to you but other clients might consider it critical to their use-case

If your users find it annoying enough then you should consider setting up Multicast Paging which does not reach the android clients. We provide both ways to cater to a larger audience and use-cases and so you have the option, it's just a matter of whether you can justify spending the time to do it.

i understand. thank you for the clarification and the examples which now make sense. can you send me a link on how to setup multicast paging. a quick search only showed what people have posted on this forum.

thanks

Are your phones on the same subnet as your server?
If NO - then you would need Custom Templates to setup a BUTTON on the phone to initiate this.

If YES - then setup a Ring Group - Paging - Multicast. Use an IP like 224.0.0.1 and port 50002.

Now under the extension - phone template - if the template supports it- then select the Multicast Listener.

Now on the phone template - set up a button for a Custom Speed Dial to that extension - ie: 710
