We want to designate a DID to a Compliance Hotline. When a user calls we want the caller id to display anonymous or anything that can mask the caller.
We have reached out first to our SIP Trunk provider to disable Caller ID for the DID that we want but they told us it was not possible and to check with our phone system.

I have been reading many forum questions about CID reformatting, but this changes it for the whole company. We want to achieve this only for one DID.

Thank you

Franco

Since you want it for compliance reasons I'd push this back to your provider. They will probably have to setup a separate trunk for that DID but that will allow you to block caller-id that way.

Thank you responding quickly.
I was afraid that this would be the solution by creating a separate the trunk.
We wanted to keep the cost down and not have to purchase another system to allow this.

Is there a way at least to disable the caller id in the email you receive when receiving a voicemail for one DID?

Do you use a Gateway at all?. If you do, you could direct the DID to an ATA (change caller ID type to something not used in your area/country), which then goes to a port (line)on a gateway, that would then route to the extension, This means that the gateway may have to be split to create one line (trunk) as a separate trunk group into 3CX depending on the gateway. or you may be able to send a DID number for the one line, then route based on a DID rule

. A complicated way to do it, but, is an alternative if all else fails, and you are desperate.

Only system-wide unfortunately change by editing the email template.

Our 3CX phone system is installed on a Windows 2012 server, I don't know how we can connect an analog phone to the system system since all of our connections are done with ethernet.

I had done something similar a number of years ago using a Cisco SPA3102, for DISA "like" access using caller ID screening and a PIN number. The FXS was registered as an extension, looped out, with a phone cord,t and back into the PSTN FXS port, which came back into 3CX as a trunk. Unfortunately, they have been discontinued for a while, and becoming harder to acquire, other than used.

We have a few clients with this request. They need anonymous hotlines setup. Essentially, one of our SIP providers offers the possibility to modify the CID so we don't need 3CX to do this. We simply enable call forward (in the provider's console) remove the CID (or alter it, depending on the client) and push the call to their hotline's hidden DID set up in 3CX

Thank you all for taking your time to give us suggestions.
I would of thought this would have been an easy setting by just disabling caller id for one DID but I guess not.
That's a great idea pitrikckzul, but this would require us having another number or service other than our SIP trunk in order to do this right?

Yeah 1 extra DID but DIDs are cheap right so i don't think it should be a problem. Unless your provider works another way.. but if it's like most of them, another 1$ and your problem is fixed.

The way our SIP Trunk provider works is that they sell 20 DID in one package, they do not allow us to purchase just one.
The other issue i see is even if we do decide to purchase more DID's, they would still be under the same SIP Trunk we already have, I don't know how it would be separated from the other DID's.

At this point i think is better to just go with a company that specializes in doing Compliance Hotlines because it seems like we are not going to be able to accomplish this with 3CX.

Can you set up two trunks on your system with the same credentials, and assign the hotline DID only on the second one? You won't have to purchase additional trunks if your trunk uses IP-based authentication, and now you can play with CID reformatting.

A less elegant solution would be to use a single ATA (i.e GrandStream HT801) with a plain analog phone in place of your current hotline deskphone, and disable the caller ID in the ATA as an extra precaution.

I will try it and see if it works.

Thank you.

Disables display on the set, but the number would still be visible in the email if a voicemail were left, as questioned earlier.
