Just moved to 3cx. We're using GS 2135 phones on a linux cloud based installation. None of the features seem to stick. Each night they are totally wiped out. The BLF Key section in 3cx only has a small number of the options available. Options like intercom, conference, record, DND aren't available. If I put them manually into the phone they get wiped out overnight. As I understand it I can disable the auto-update but then if the phone loses power or is disconnected for any reason it will reset back to just showing the line appearances and I have to reconfig the phone again. I was really excited about switching to 3cx until I ran into this. It seems like a better template would solve the problem but making these templates is just a little over my head so I was hoping someone had a better template for this phone.

Please provider info on the setup - https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/information-to-provide-when-requesting-help.67558/

3CX will only wipe out the settings, if the phone has been provisioned by 3CX as it updates every 24 hrs. Any manual settings will be wipe at the next provisioning of the phone.

As the phone is not in the list of supported phones (not i can see), how have you provisioned the phones and what template are you using.

Yes. Grandstream GS2135 and they are supported.

To begin, we have several phones that we've utilized in the past with two line appearances. For example, I have a second business that I had a second line appearance for but now I have to set two phones on my desk....This phone supports up to 4. But through 3cx it seems I can only assign one extension to a phone MAC. Not sure if a template would help there. But thought I would ask.

Aside from that, there are several other features not listed in the 7 that show in 3cx. Call return Transfer, Monitored transfer, call park, Presence watcher, intercom, Message, keypad lock, and many others. More than I'll ever use, but intercom, message and monitored transfer (vs blind transfer) are useful.

I wouldn't mind setting up custom VPKs but as I said, they get wiped on update every 24 hours when the system updates (another issue I'm dealing with for another thread as the option to update automatically is unchecked but it still does it in the middle of the day). I would prefer to setup these things through 3cx so I don't have to reconfig on every power loss, disconnection, etc as that appears to trigger updates as well.

Use GDMS, it will ease everything a lot.

Hi,

A few remarks:

Accounts per device = indeed, we only support a single extension per device

Blind / Attended transfer = options exist, and you can even pick which one you want by default when transferring via BLF keys

Intercom = can be set as a speed dial from the BLF tab (ie. *9100 will intercom extension 100)

Conference = exists as a softkey

DND = exists as a softkey

Record = not available, but you can enable recording by default on your extension (it's available in sofclients though as an on-demand option - if that is the goal to record only on demand. Softclients can also remote control the phones)

Finally, you can create custom templates if you wish although if you have issues or the phone misbehaves we will recommend going back to our defaults.

Thanks for the answer. Why is it that you only support one handset per extension? Most other IP systems I've dealt with for 15 years allow multiple handsets for one extension. For example:
1.) I work half the time at the office and half from home. I don't want a separate extension as we use DIDs with matching extensions being the last 4 of the DID. I know I can leave the office and set it to forward to the other extension. I'm not sure if I could do so remotely if I woke up sick thinking I was going to the office and changed my mind. But caller ID would still have it's own voicemail, not ring to the same general mailbox for my extension. I suppose I could create a call group just for myself but that seems roundabout when most IP phone support multiple line appearances as standard features.
a.) I could also put a phone in the basement and another upstairs and handle calls from either.
2.) I run a separate business out of my home. With previous systems I could put both lines on the phone and dial out using the same handset. The outbound caller ID and voicemail would route to the correct single account.

So as it is, I now have to use 2 phones in the office, 2 in the basement, and 2 upstairs and all have the capability of using up to 4 line appearances.

We don't have the skillset to create custom templates.. But it seems that if a template can be made to do this, and you already provide templates for all these specific phones, then your templates should include the features and capabilities that the phone has.Or at least 2-3 line appearances. Why the same MAC can't be used twice I just don't get. I see the potential for screwups, but a simple warning "This MAC is already assigned to ext XXXX. Are you sure you wish to proceed?" would do the trick.

Since so many phones have the ability to show multiple line appearances, and so many systems and providers have this ability, I don't get why your templates don't support it. We've used several systems and this is the first time we've run into this.

We're a small wireless carrier and one of my engineers is working on certification to be a distributor. I'm sitting here prepared to upgrade to PRO when he finishes, but if every time I run into such a situation - which we do often with CEOs and such who want a desk phone at home, or small businesses that run 2-3 businesses from the same desk - and we don't have a solution for this, we're going to have to find another system. I don't want to do that. Too much trouble to convert after just converting recently. So if there is ANY solution, that would be terrific.

3CX supports more than one handset per extension. It doesn't support more than 1 extension per handset

There's a few more things happening under the hood, so for the time being you will only be able to use 1 extension on each device. I can suggest something else which may work:

1. If you have multiple trunks, you can use outbound rules to dial out from each one on demand.
2. You can also have multiple trunks use the same extension as their incoming destination.

Granted that some things are not supported on our platform (to accomodate for other things that are) so you can always ask on the forum for what your end-goal is and other members can provide suggestions on how to implement it on 3CX.

PS: Don't forget you also have the softclients, which means you can control certain things from your iOS/Android, and even switch between accounts on the fly
