Are the backup are encrypted?

Curiosity, we are investigating different way to generate statistic and dashboard.

We backup the database and discovered xml and csv files. But they seem in a unreadable format when we tried to open them.

Are hey encrypted or binaries?

I am validating with an infrastructure person if the backup was generated with this checkbox ticked.

I tried both with and without password, it looks like the backup is encrypted when we put a password on it. Can you confirm me ?
