assign extension number to a contact or similar

I've spent a few minutes searching and can't seem to find exactly what I've been asked to do. I have a potential customer that is completely non-technical. they currently have an old shoretel system that allowed his to have this large "speed-dial" list of 3 digit extensions that dialed only external numbers. i need to recreate this on 3cx but can't seem to be able to. i've tried creating a new extension with the routing rule of calling the mobile number if no answer in 1 second but i can't register the extension as available without a phone and so calling it fails. EDIT: these are customers, family members, etc. that are not employees of the company so the soft-phone avenue won't work. /EDIT

Use outbound rules.

Calls to number starting with Prefix i.e. speed dial number , strip digits 3, Prepend normal telephone number

Note sure the limit of outbound rules you can have, this maybe the limiting factor

You can use your setup, just use 'If I am busy or my phone is unregistered, forward calls to:' to forward to mobile.

i selected that option, when dialing the extension form an internal number i get a message that they are temporarily unavailable (on the phone).

Turns out the correct way to do this is indeed call rules according to this This tutorial hopefully there isn't a limit on rules, i only need about 125 of them. speed dial was a phrase i didn't use when searching.

Another way would be to create an extension and under the Forwarding Rules tab set the Away status to "Forward to number" (be sure to set it for Internal and External calls if desired) and then change the extension's status to Away.

Please note that the system can easily handle 125 outbound rules. The thing to consider is to not have your speed dials overlap with any system extension numbers. The system will first look into the internal extensions and will then look in the outbound rules for possible matches. Also note that outbound rules are validate from top to bottom so when a match is found the system will not look any further.

thanks, I have all 3-digit extensions there but these speed dial numbers will all be 4 digits to prevent that from overlapping.
