Hello all,

I am very new to 3CX. I have barely seen or used all of the endless features. I have a SIP trunk setup and I have several desktops and softphones hooked up throughout my house.
I ordered an inexpensive Avaya 9601 VOIP phone. The guide on 3CX uses Windows Server as the dhcp options and control interface. I have all Ubiquiti equipment and I just cannot seem to figure any of this out. I can access DHCP options through my Dream Machine Pro, but I cannot create a DHCP reservation through my equipment. Can I run an internal DHCP server that will give me access to these features I need?

Thanks

Would it make sense to create a voice vlan and have that run off another dhcp server so I can change the dhcp reservations? I already got to the DHCP options but I cannot change the reservation options as shown in the guide.

Avaya are not natively supported by 3CX anyway so what are you trying to acheive from the DHCP option?

you're going to need to log in to the GUI of the phone and manually input the SIP details.

I was using the guide I linked in my original post back from several years ago. I can manually input the sip details I just thought this would be easier.

DHCP opt 66 is for autoprovisioning but this only works if you have a template that 3CX can offer and as there isnt one for Avaya it will do nothing.

We recommend against using such devices as they are no longer being developed, updated, maintained or expanded feature-wise. I think they were released around 2006-2007 which makes them prehistoric in the world of IT and security.

They were added to 3CX a long time ago to help people migrate but with the view that they would eventually be replaced with something more modern, not that they would be deployed 15 years later :)

Your best bet would be to sell them them and get something newer from the supported list (not the Legacy / EOL list). If the cost of getting new or used supported phones is currently an issue, then you are way better off skipping deskphones entirely and using the 3CX desktop / mobile / web apps for your calls. They will definitely be more compatible and feature rich than the 9601, and don't require you to waste your valuable time and resources like the 9601 phones do in order to get them working in what might ultimately be a very limited or problematic way. These are legacy devices, they are no longer being tested for compatibility with modern versions of 3CX so we cannot guarantee they will actually still work in 2022.

You can find the supported devices list here:

If you see any specific model you are interested in, drop us a line here and we can advise if its worth buying in 2022
