BLF Speed Dials on Snom D717

I have several D717s with this issue (but not all).

When a BLF is configured as a speed dial via the management console, I get a not found error on the phone when I press the button. I can call the extension manually without issue.

Running 3CX 16.0.910 with stock template for Snom.

are D717's all same firmware release?
Blf are set exactly the same on all phones?

Why not starting by an update to latest PBX 16.0.3.676 version?

Sorry, I am running 16.0.3.676 actually.

All phones are 10.1.37.11

BLFs are all configured the same way.

Only difference is some are behind an SBC, while the others are not.

The first call was using the BLF speed dial button. The second call was dialing the extension.

6999 is a Fanvil PA2 device that answers automatically.

Hi Corey.

Your firmware is correct, but you need to reset and reprovision the snom so it uses the new template (91548). The issue you have over the SBC snoms is due to the old template.

Is a factory reset required? or can I just hit the "Reprovision" button in the console?

You can, but if it does not improve try a factory reset just to be sure.

I'm assuming all the PBX pending updates have already been installed.

I did a factory reset, no luck. I see this in the phones SIP trace.

I think I found it!

I have my phones configured with a host name for the SBC.
It is "sbc.pbx.lan"

If I change that to the actual IP, the speed dial starts to work properly.

I use the hostname so that I can switch phones to another SBC if necessary just by changing the DNS record for "sbc.pbx.lan".

This seems like a bug to me, but I don't know if it is a 3CX bug or a Snom bug.

Ok, in this case they are not exactly provisioned by PnP as the system intends so this is an unknown variable now.

You might have to speak with Snom on this so they can tell you how the device handles this.

The PBX will auto configure the phone with the SBC IP when used as designed.

I add the phone with PnP, I just change the SBC address from the IP to the host name. Everything works fine, except the speed dials.

The reason I use a host name for the SBC is that it is a single point of failure. If it fails, I can just update the DNS record to point to another SBC in my network.

What’s the official recommendation for SBC failover?

Hi Corey,

For the time being we recommend to use the IP as per our current provisioning scheme, the hostname method you use is not tested or supported at the moment so we cannot guarantee that your phones will function properly.

We are however working on something for the future that can provide you with SBC redundancy so stay tuned

Nope, that's not the same issue.

I would suggest officially supporting hostnames for the SBC. It's a very simple way to support redundancy. If an SBC goes down, just point the hostname to another SBC. Phones should come back up after the TTL for the hostname expires. Additionally, it makes it easy for a phone to roam from one network to another. As long as you use the same hostname in all your networks, but have it point to the correct IP for that local net.
