Call Codecs, best ones?

From your experience, what is the best call codecs to be using? I have a user complaining the call sounds muffled, and has a delay when calling. Trying to find a way to improve this.

There are so many places to change the codecs. At the SIPTrunk area, codec priority is listed as G.711 U-law, G729.

In the individual extensions, I had changed all the codecs to G729.

Where should I be changing these codecs to be best for my clients?

So you changed to G729 before or after they complained? G711 is pretty much the default out of the box configuration. If you didn't touch anything, then G711 would the default except for the soft clients. If you changed it on the individual extensions, you'll need to change it back.
