Afternoon all.

I have just upgraded to V16. And converted the audio files. We had 130GB of files. All seemed OK. Until today I have noticed I now have just 70GB. And there is nothing prior to February 2019.

Is this anything to do with V16? Is there a default recordings quota or anything?I noticed that a time quota of 365 days has been added. But we didn't do this, unless someone else logged in and added it.. Is there a log to show where this could have changed?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Hi Paul,

can you fill this out

  • 3CX Version, e.g. Standard Annual 16.0.2.910
  • Server OS, e.g. Debian 9 / Windows 10 Server 2012 R2 / Raspberry Pi
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where?
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware
  • Provisioning Method: Local / VPN / STUN / SBC
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES / NO
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: YES / NO

Also, Have you got archiving enabled on your recordings?

Sure:

  • 3CX Version Professional 16.0.3.676
  • Server OS, Windows 10 pro
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Hosted in the clients office.
  • IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware Yealink T46G 28.83.0.130
  • Provisioning Method: Local
  • Trunk Provider or Gateway Make/Model Gamma Sip Trunk
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO

Do you have archiving set up for recordings?

Yes. I am currently downloading a backup to unzip and check they are there

Also, are you saying the auto cleaning function has been enabled? that isnt a default option.

Yes. I checked last night and it was enabled to keep 365 days

But the 365 days doesnt explain why its been deleted from February.

Where are you archiving your recordings to? If It was archive related I'd expect you to only have 30 days of recordings if you had ot set to monthly. Are you able to check recent versions in Windows? Or as you say, check your backups. When did you confirm you 130GB of recordings vs the 70GB?

Also, you have to uninstall and reinstall 3CX on Windows when upgrading. I believe when you do that the recordings folder is wiped over (TBC?). It is possible that you've been backing up the 70GB all along. I remember when I went v15 to 16 on Windows I backed up the recordings folder to the desktop, did a backup without recordings, restored, copied the recordings back and then converted.

There were no previous version unfortunately. If I have a backup, I can put them back, but just want to find the cause, otherwise it may just do it again.

I did uninstall yes. I made a backup and copied them in to convert, it all went successfully. I checked it was ok, said 130GB etc.. and stupidly deleted the backup thinking all was well. 3 days later and half are gone.

When you look at the recordings are you using 3CX or explorer? Maybe your conversion failed?

I have checked both, they say the same thing. Every extensions recordings have been cut off at exactly the same date and time, which suggests its an automated delete..

you'd have to look in the recordings folder of your backups pre v16 to confirm if they match up.

If they do, then they were removed prior.

Did you have recording compression enabled pre v16? im not sure if it auto turns on during the upgrade or whether or not the conversion does compression.

But until you can categorically say this file exists in my backup pre and it doesnt exist in the restore then the upgrade cannot be blamed.

You mentioned you have archiving enabled on records. Have you checked your archiving location.

and stupidly deleted the backup thinking all was well. 3 days later and half are gone.
Perhaps they are always in recycle bin to be undeleted

I checked the recycle bin. I am just unzipping the backup from v15.5 Fingers crossed. Ill update and let you know if its human error.. Or something else.

you can try with recovery software like recuva to scan your drive and restore file from deletion

I will try that. If I find some old recordings, can I just paste them into the folder? Do they need to be converted? Thanks

You can paste them in but they'll need converting again. 3CX probably wont detect them. You'll have to go to Settings > Parameter and add a new one called RECS_SYNC_REQUIRED with a value of 1. Go to the dashboard and it should ask to convert. Though, ive never done this with recordings already converted and some not converted so not sure what the outcome would be. if it didnt work your option would be to move recordings out of this folder, copy all your recordings plus recovered ones (pre v16 upgrade) from a backup and then do what I said above.

Ok great, I will try this. thanks... I will let you know how it goes with mixing them up.
