I have a proposed system for a customer, I will be taking over their main phone numbers through my SIP provider. The customer also wants backup POTS lines on site in the event of a internet outage. My thought is to have a main local PBX with a cloud slave (or vice versa?). My question is, in the event of a local internet outage how would I go about forwarding calls from the main number (SIP), through the cloud pbx, to the POTS number(s), through the local pbx and to my extensions? Also, is this the best way to approach this?

A failover from an on-premise host to a cloud host and vice versa is not supported

This part may be possible, if your VoIP provider allows calls to be forwarded to another number, in the event your PBX registration fails. So, calls could be forwarded to a PSTN number connected to a gateway into another install of 3CX. That might actually be the easy part....there are going to be many issues to overcome beyond that. The remainder is not going to be an automatic process.

Best way if you need good failover is to do your PBX install in house, therefore if there is an internet outage, at least internal extensions can call each other. That's for that.

Then for the phone part, on your local internet gateway, have a failover over GSM network for voice. Transparent for the SIP Carrier, and it works great.

Other solution is to use a carrier like Flowroute. If you have your failover setup, you can redirect incoming calls to pot lines if you want.

Why not just have a local install, then a PSTN gateway can be connected to the one PBX. In the event of an internet outage, the PBX continues to operate but because registration of the VoIP trunk fails, calls could be routed to the PSTN trunks. (Outgoing calls will show the PSTN caller ID when the internet is down.)

If the concern is that the internet connection is going to fail, perhaps because it does on a regular basis, then I would not consider having a 3CX cloud installation at all, and just go local.

Thank you for your reply, I am using Flowroute and I believe that this seems to be the most foolproof solution. Even without the GSM Failover this will still succeed. Do you have any success using GSM failover in the US? What products do you use?
