Caller ID of Phantom Extension

Our system has been put into night mode occasionally by a non existent extension. Looking at the call logs and searching for the *642 several have an extension that is not even there. It is not a ring group, Que or digital Reception, and not an extension. Where are places to look or find where these are coming from? How can I stop or fix it? What could it be?

Check your extensions for weak passwords. Generally this might happen if someone was able to "hack in" with an easy password. You'd be surprised, but some people make the extension password the same as the extension number.

I would put logging into verbose mode to possibly get some extra information.

Hi Guys,
I have just written a feature request asking for a Visual Day / Night Mode indication on the 3CX system and this may be useful in helping you to identify if this happens again as there is currently no way to see what mode the sstem is in via the VoIP phones.

I would appreciate it if you could upvote the post i have just put on the ideas forum as to how 3CX could easily implement this change on the system by using a global extension number.

The post also has a link with how someone else managed to do this with an Asterisk system and a Cisco VoIP phone.
