Today the porting of the client phone numbers completed but now the system is not accepting calls (we get a "Number not in service" message when calling). Even the old "temp" number we had been using does not route through properly. I obtained a log of me trying to call 2 of the numbers and it shows something processing so calls are getting to the system but not routing to the extension set (was a Ring Group extension but even tried switching it to just a user phone with same results).
I'm really confused why it would have been working and then break when the other numbers completed porting.

Verbose logging or wireshark to see why.

I would speak to the provider - ‘number not in service’ suggests the number does not exists

Sounds iif the porting has failed

For some reason (maybe another setting I changed?) my incoming SIP Trunk values had to be changed from 1areacodephonenumber (12165551212) to *phonenumber *5551212. Once I did that for all numbers that are being received by the system calls started processing in properly.

Could iit be the DID format of the numbers, with the new provider, changed? Were the changes you made, in the DID rules?

So when I am migrating a client I tell them to leave their existing phone lines alone. We setup their VOIP system and phones in the office and use a temporary number to receive calls and forward their old number to this temp number so clients still reach them.
Then, when the client is happy with how the phones are working, we initiate the port request. So in this instance the system was already setup, connecting to my SIP provider and allowing outgoing (and incoming via the temp number) calls to process. The ported numbers should have been simply added to the SIP trunk in the same format but I had to change the format of ALL the numbers or none of them worked.
Logs showed the call received by the system but because the incoming SIP rules weren't matching the calls just got dropped and the caller received an "Out of service" message.

Sounds like something you should question your provider about. Perhaps they did an update to the options on your trunk that affected all DID numbers being sent. the 3CX Activity log should show the format of the numbers, and how it differs from the old rules.

Don't think that is the case as I didn't have to change any of my other phone systems. Just this new one. Probably a settings I changed while fine tuning their system that caused it to need it in a different format.
