i'm just wondering if 3cx does ok with vm snapshots and reverting back to them. i use the built in backup. i also backup the vm using my hypervisor backup tools.

i'm going to upgrade to the latest version and would like to take a snapshot prior to the upgrade so i'll be able to revert to it if the upgrade does not go my way.

any problems with this?

There are several fringe scenarios but the main thing would be making sure you setup your 3CX properly (aka static MAC address) as having that change could anger the 3CX licensing server. Should be ok otherwise.

Hello @Shawn

What version are you upgrading from? I would recommend you perform a full backup of the system as well as a snapshot before upgrading.

we are on 15.5.3849.1. i'm looking to go to the latest available version. yes, my plan is to backup and snapshot before upgrade.

my question was, will there be any issues with 3cx if i needed to revert to the snap shot, in case my upgrade does not go well?

If you take the snapshot while the system is powered down it should be no issue as the database will be consistent during the snapshot.
1. Take Backup -> move backup off system.
2. Turn system off -> take snapshot
3. Turn PBX on and preform upgrade.

Although i would never recommend going to a previous version after upgrading there should be no issue with restoring your snapshot as the service pack you are upgrading to is in the same major version as the service pack you are currently on.
