Solved Cannot get Grantstream GXP1760W to work, not sure what's going wrong

In commercial setups, you should have a Router that just handles the network traffic in and out of the facility. Then you have a WAP with/without a controller. It simply passes DHCP from the Router or DHCP Server. (You may also have a separate firewall, or it may be built into your router)

The design and products used depends on the budget available.
You can use Mikrotik Routers which are fairly inexpensive, but a little harder to program.
But they seem to be powerhouses. I use an 8 core model on my network. I like this model because it has redundant power supplies. (Mikrotik also makes routers with Cloud Controllers build in for their own WAP's)


In a smaller environment, if the ISP is providing a modem with DHCP built in, then you need to add the WiFi part - a simple WAP (example: TP-Link EAP225 V3 Wireless MU-MIMO Gigabit Ceiling Mount Access Point). However, with home installs, you can run into Routing issues and public IP changes... usually you can not program the port forwarding on equipment locked down by the ISP.

EDIT: I'm looking at this document and realizing we may be having a pretty significant hardware problem.

Look for something that's business / SMB grade and is an access point, not a router.

For example:

Generally these only have 1 ethernet port, can be wall, ceiling mounted, are flat and usually have PoE support. If the business doesn't have PoE make sure you have a way of powering it (some AP's only come with PoE support with the power supply as an optional extra).

I'm getting a sense that you are quite a small operation without any specialist IT available so you have to do it yourself, is that right?

I ask because it suddenly occurred to me that the TP-Link might be your only networking hardware that handles all of your internet traffic whereas I had assumed you had just bolted it onto your existing LAN.

This is important as, if this router handles all of your networking, I am giving you completely incorrect advice!

However, if it is simply an add-on to an existing network then yes, the AP would replace it.

You're exactly right, I am for all intents and purposes the IT department. Our entire internet setup is a netgear modem and the TP-Link router.
 
So in this case - all hardware connects to the TP-Link router/WiFi? and all devices should be getting same IP Address Range?

Yes exactly.
 
so the only thing I think of, which isnt common on home based routers, is that sometimes endpoints are prevented from talking... ie: PBX and Phone. This is sometimes a security precaution on public networks.

Is there anyway that I could prevent that, even if it's only a short term solution?
 
So I turned off all of the security features on the TP Link and rebooted the deskphone, it's now showing up under phones. I'm not sure which security feature did the trick or how safe this is, but it's nice to see progress.

EDIT: I feel so painfully close to a breakthrough, after assigning it to an extension directly from "phones" I thought it would work but it didn't. I got a "loading configuration failure"

Ensure phone is on latest firmware, 3cx fully updated, etc.

Hi NDCPS

Just thought I could see if I could help here, on your network do you have a Windows Server acting as a DC that provides DHCP, DNS and Active Directory capability?

The problem was the TP-Link WIFI has some security feature which block the connection.
Consider using Unifi AP, they are cheap and powerful. It is a controller based system which the controller software is free and can install on Windows System.Or using an Unifi Key to use for cloud controller.

Make sure you're working from a factory reset phone.

Well, after turning off some security settings I got the phone to work over Lan. I then factory reset it and tried to get it to work on Wi-Fi as initially intended and so far no luck

EDIT: I got the configuration failure again and then it asked me for a username and password which it has never done before

So I finally got it working.

What I did: Turned off some security settings on the TP Link, factory reset the phone while connected to LAN and it was then plug and play ready. While still connected to LAN I had to connect it to wi-fi and then I was able to remove the LAN connection.
