Hello All,

I have just switched SIP Trunk provider from Generic (with authentication) to Generic (IP Based). The switch of provider was due to reliability and IPv6 support.

The previous setup was working without any problems, 3 SIP accounts, 3 Passwords, no problems. The new provider is causing me serious problems. I have one SIP account and 3 telephone numbers. There are set of instructions for setting up the SIP on a Fritz!Box 7490, a summary of which is: IP Based connection, user name, password, registra & use telephone number when registering.

I'm not getting any help from the service provider, they just keep saying that I need to register with the phone number. Very unhelpful.

If I set the Authentication to 'IP Based' there is no registration attempt (no captured SIP traffic), if I try any of the other methods then I get a failed registration. The SIP Traffic shows:
  1. R: REGISTER
  2. S: 401 Unauthorized
  3. R: REGISTER
  4. S: 404 Not Found
I assume that it's happy with the authentication and just doesn't like format of the authenticated request.

I've tried various different setups with the Outbound Parameters, but I cannot get it to register.

Does anyone have any ideas how to translate the Fritz 'use phone number to register' option with the 3CX setup?

So either you, or your provider are confused on how this works. IP Based trunks have no username/password, hence the 'IP Authenticated' part. You might want to clarify exactly how you are supposed authenticate.

I already tried to clarify, but they are not very helpfull. The answer I keep getting is that the error message is generic, I need to register the telephone numbers and they can't (I assume be bothered) help.
The provider normally supplies a Fritz!Box as the standard for all private and business clients. My (business) setup is a Draytek 130 B + ZyXel USG60W + Windows Server 2012 R2 and I don't want to use the Fritz!Box.
Unfortunatley, I'm in a rural area and have very limited choice: 50MBit VDSL2 from two providers, 1MBit DSL or LTE3.5 / 4G with monthly data caps.
Unless there are any better ideas, I will have to setup a Fritz!Box as a modem-less client in the network and examine the SIP traffic for clues!

Perhaps if you provide the name of the provider (I assume it is not a secret), someone else, that also uses them, can provide some help. It may also warn anyone thinking of using that provider, that they won't be of any help, if there is an issue.

The company name is NetCOM BW, although I believe (unconfirmed) that the SIP Trunk provider is actually BT Germany.
