Solved Configure Remote Extension via Stun V15.5

I am trying to configure 2 remote extensions at a Country Club that is not on the same LAN. The remote office has a seperate internet connection and 2 Polycom VVX300 IP Phones that need to be connected via STUN / without SBC. There used to be a way to go to the extension and on the Provisioning tab choose STUN. In v15.5 the only option I see is Local LAN or 3CX SBC in the drop down list. Is there a way to provision these 2 extensions without an 3CX SBC?

Hi jhogue1975,

Not officially no, VPN or SBC (which I believe has only recently been added). I would not recommend direct STUN anyway for sites with more than 1 extension purely due to the additional ports STUN requires as well as potential issues you may get between the phones if you were to call transfer for example.

You used to be able to amend and create a custom template to support STUN and SBC on legacy devices but I will be honest and say that I have not tested this on the latest version of 3CX.

I think it would be quicker to get yourself a Raspberry Pi they are around £50 on Amazon and pretty simple to configure: https://www.3cx.com/docs/3cx-tunnel-session-border-controller/

Or some companies sell them pre-loaded for 3CX if you are unfamiliar with Linux:

As mentioned VVX devices used to be supported for local Lan use only. In the latest update support for SBC provisioning was added. So in your scenario i would recommend using an SBC to provision the phones unless a VPN connection is possible which in that case will enable you to provision the phones as local.

I ordered 2 Raspberry Pi's to use as SBC's. I am trying to configure the Master and 2 Slave bridges. I configured the Master on the main 3CX PBX located in the Clubhouse. I installed the 3CX SBC on the 2 Raspberry Pi's but now need to know how to configure the Slave on each of the Pi's. Should I get some kind of GUI on the Pi's to configure the Slave's or do I have to do it all at the command line? If command line, how? Do I just edit the /etc/3cxsbc.conf file?

Hi Jhogue,

You do not need to configure bridging for the Raspberry pi's, infact there is no where in the 3CX PBX GUI that requires any attention. Its all done from the Pi itself: https://www.3cx.com/docs/3cx-tunnel-session-border-controller/

Bridging is for connecting PBX's together.

In-fact on feature that is in progress is the ability to see more information about SBC's in the 3CX PBX interface, we should hopefully see some thing soon: https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/3cx-sbc-status-in-admin-gui.42985/

P.S: If installing the Pi, unless you have any changes that need to be made you should not have to touch the 3cxsbc.conf file, you just need to install the device and let it be.

As @eddv123 mentioned just follow the SBC configuration wizard and the SBC should connect to the PBX.
Please note that VVX devices cannot be provisioned via PnP so you will need to set up the extension in the 3CX management console and manually add the SBC IP under the phone provisioning settings. Then copy the provisioning link and add it into the phones web interface.
A guide is coming soon for this.
Bridging is used to connect 2 or more 3CX phone systems together.
