I thought, that should be easy - I even thought there should a template available.
Whatever I enter in the username/password box of the new trunk, it is denied with 404 user not found.

I dont need a bridge, I need the option to use a phone on the pbxA to receive and dial out through the trunk of pbxB. I could manually setup a phone to connect to both pbx. But in the past either I or the users forgot to deactivate the manually configured connection. Result: calls came in and people spoke to the wrong agent.

What template to use for this, and what do I have to enter as SIP username + Password?

TIA

Use a bridge. Yes, calls can work too.

Thank you, so you say with a brige a Caller calls an extension or ringgroup of pbxB and a phone or ringroup in pbxA will receive the call?
And if I want to dial out with my phone on pbxA using pbxB I can use something like *8nnnnnnn and the call will be created using the CID of an extension of pbxB?

Here's what the bridge can do:
  • Make calls from ext to ext on each system (ring groups included, but the RG itself cannot have extensions from another PBX, which I agree is sad)
  • Make calls from ext to external number by using a trunk on the bridged PBX. So the same way you use a prefix to reach the other side, you can setup both PBX to be able to dial out using the CID of the trunk on the other side. I did this with @DavidRostoker recently.
  • You can probably also use dummy extensions to forward incoming calls to an extension on the other system tho (using ring my mobile or forward to external number, those fields follow the outbound rules). So you could use dummy ext, add those to a ring group and set them to forward to <prefix><remote ext>.

Do you think you could work with that?

Thanks. I will give this a try - if there no other option.
In this Scenario I cannot use the CID number of an extension of the remote pbx, only the base CID of the trunk will be used.
Again back to my original question:
Why should this not not work? I even remeber to have this done, but that was at a time when the login used was only the extensions number and password.

It's how the trunks are managed in 3CX. The same way that you can't take an inbound call from a trunk a direct it "by DID". You have to use inbound rules and such.

Well, I finally found out how to do it the way I first asked:
Overwrite the default cryptic Authentication ID with a simple number - the extension number. This is the crucial part. Go figure why, but it works.
Then, use the generic sip provider as the template. The registration now will be sucessful.
However outgoing calls will be blocked by the remote pbx since 3cx wants more then 4 chars in the primary trunk number. So enter any wrong number you like but in the outbound parameters, enter the remote extensions number for the From:Display Name and From:User Part as custom field

At first sight it works exactly like I need. I will have to test this for a while before trusting this and implement it in production. If not ok then back to the bridge.
