I have an older Asterisk 11 IVR that I need to connect to my 3CX v16 server until we can re-design the IVR in a call flow app. Would it be better to connect it via a bridge or as a client? We will only be directing incoming calls the 3CX sever to this IVR. As far as simultaneous calls, there would probably be at most 10 at a time. Thats where I"m not sure if it would be better to do a trunk or client config.

Thanks

  • 3CX Version, 16.04.504
  • Server OS, e.g. Debian 9
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? No
  • Provisioning Method: Local
  • Trunk Provider Twilio
  • Has the Firewall Checker passed: YES
  • Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO

The only thing that springs to mind (although I do think you may as well get the IVR re-design with CFD started) is a setting on 3CX "call forward to an outside number" like call divert basically.

Call comes into Asterisks >> IVR >> rule to forward to an outside number (3CX).

A little Google searching for Asterisk comes up with some options: https://serverfault.com/questions/848300/asterisk-redirect-calls-to-external-number

Yeah, I was looking at the bridging guides and not having luck with the asterisk box registering to the 3CX server. Thats why I was looking at setting up asterisk as a client instead.
Also the flow of the calls will be going from Outside >> 3CX >> Asterisk IVR. I'm trying to migrate the IVR to a different SIP provider and the one we currently use has configuration documentation for a much newer version of Asterisk. I'm not sure if it will work with the older version we are running currently.

I'll keep digging. Thanks.

After following the bridging guide for inbound only, I get the following error in the asterisk logs

chan_sip.c: sip_xmit of 0xb7d6d7e8 (len 361) to <3CX Server IP>:5060 returned -1: Operation not permitted

it was an out bound iptables rule on the asterisk box that was blocking the connection. now to test.
